  1. In the 1930s and early 1940s, elephants and hippos roamed the large bushes of Anambra State. It was also common to see leopards running across our roads at that time. But as our towns and cities grew larger, we cleared our bushes to build more houses. Gradually these animals had no space to live, the noise from our towns terrified them and we hunted them to sell their skins and tusks. By the 1950s, the few of them remaining had migrated east, out of Nigeria.
