Ta-Nehisi Coates – “The Message” & Understanding the Humiliation of Oppression | The Daily Show
“Your oppression will not save you.” Best-selling author Ta-Nehisi Coates sits down with Jon Stewart to talk about his latest book, “The Message,” and reconciling past and present vestiges of oppression. They discuss his visits to Senegal, South Carolina, and The West Bank, how past atrocities like slavery and the holocaust can create a…

Mr. Coates, I've missed you. Your voice is so important. Very glad to see/here from you again.
I think at this point it just needs to be acknowledged that we need to find a way to force Jon Stewart to become president
Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Palestinians are in the situation they are in bc they are violent and keep fighting. Black Americans were segregated from schools etc bc they were a different skin color and thought to be less of a human. Stop fighting and Gaza would be peaceful. African Americans were the meekest non violent ppl from MLK to women taking care of other children and treating them kindly, and they still couldn’t live in peace. It is not the same “struggle” and it’s disgusting than he attempts to equate the two. So keep writing books about everything but Sudan- he does NOT speak for the Black community or those in Sudan, clearly.
Taneisha doesn’t want to write a book about Sudan? Where Muslims are killing ppl who look like him right now. Palestinians don’t care about Black ppl and are violent. He needs to mind his own business and stop trying to burn bridges w the Jewish community who has been a friend to the Black community for generations. Let ppl who celebrate violence help themselves.
How about stop stealing killing in the black community
Oppressive Zionism began before the Holocaust. Coates needs to read The Transfer Agreement. Zionists negotiated with the Nazis to allow Jews to emigrate to Palestine only.
Johnathan Leibowitz held a better interview with Coates than Tony Dokoupil (a converted Jew) did. He didn't let being of Jewish decent cloud his view of Coates' words. Bravo, Jon!
After the CBS Morning interview, I made a mission to review other interviews discussing his latest work. No other journalists or commentators treated him with any level of disrespect. Even CBS Saturday Morning did a great job covering the book and the sensitivity around Israel/Palestine. Much love to Jon Stewart for showing these journalists how it's done. CBS Morning Show, Mr. Coates deserves an apology. 💙💙💙
Did anyone catch John say the word Gaza ? He was nervous in this interview . I didn’t feel genuine sympathy from him regarding Palestinians. And I really like john but this interview made me uncomfortable.
This is why I watch The Daily Show regularly because it’s relatable and revelant on issues of today. ❤
A lot of it just comes down to people thinking they're better than other people. Everything else just forms around that or is picked up as justification.
It is such a simple massage that every single human being understands, but the ones in power. One can not rule with accupation and fear. Al powers that have done that have fallen.

Two blind shills in the same room, scratching each other's backs. What a display!
Speaking truth to people despite the cost. A true hero.
This was a major contrast to the CBS interview. Though I can recognize the importance of looking through different lenses (books are considered art and we all can interpret or take something different from it), the way Jon interviewed in a truly inquisitive manner was a breath of fresh air. In contrast, the interviewer on CBS literally accused Coates of being anti-Semitic. No sense of wanting to understand the author’s perspective. CBS “told” the author what he was and what his intent was and then figuratively put their fingers in their ears because the idea of hearing any perspective outside of what they decided it was, was not going to be heard. Wow.
I thought stewart didn't let Coates talk as much as he should have by letting coates answer instead of Stewart answering for him. 5:07
Reparations for FBA or the Oppression of YAHWEH,,,,s People
Absolutely brilliant and thoufhtful mind, worth listening to.Thank you Ta🙏
Yea. These two are uniquely American in their "enlightened" thoughts and speech. I'm Bosnian. I was born in 1983. It was horrific when the Serbs arrived. "Never Again." Yeah. Sure. It will always happen again and again.
The truth is truth free Palestine 🇵🇸
Free Palestine
Great interview. Putting CBS to shame.
Slightly narcissistic is very generous description of the American collective unconsciousness' need to devour everything it sees, eventually culminating in a country that seriously values eating the most hotdogs in 10 minutes, without dunking them in water, as coveted accomplishment. (it was 83 hot dogs this year in case you are wondering)
John it's not religious differences that are the cause of the conflict in the middle east and certainly not the source of Palestinians, Lebanese, or Yemeni actions against Israel. It is resistance to an Apartheid Zionist state that with the unconditional support of the U.S. uses violence to control and expand its land theft and ethnic cleansing. For generations Jews and Palestinians living in Palestine lived peacefully together as neighbors.
Israel became a state by forcefully removing at least 700,000 Palestinians from their land and homes. The theft has continued to this day through killing, imprisonment, walls, destroying Palestinian homes, theft of water, and controlling every aspect of Palestinian lives. As a 75 year old American I am incensed at the control Israel has over our government, elections, and tax dollars.
This is deep…..CBS take a lesson… People we need to show love…
Western media has shut out the true cost and story of Palestine, which is profoundly dangerous, for any civilised society. alao its the same diviant ideologies, which keep reperations from ADOS and the Apartheid that Zionism has perpetrated, same Monsters
Jon …he states the Jewish state is an apartheid and Jim Crow….. probably worse….. his stay in the Jewish state
13:40 the term diaspora was used superbly during this conversation. John Stewart and the guest are on to something
Liberia and israel are not the same
From this discussion – Man is broken – we are in need of salvation and the enemy is not my fellow man but SIN !
