Sudan suspends membership in IGAD regional bloc

Sudan has suspended its membership with the regional body set up to promote development in eastern Africa.
It’s because the Intergovernmental Authority on Development invited the leader of the Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces armed group.
Sudan’s military has been fighting the RSF for several months.

  1. How did the Sudanese military government expect the mediation to work? That the RSF would come to the negotiating table after surrendering? Suspending its IGAD membership over the "mediation" effort is an overreaction, assuming the reporting on the issue gives the complete picture.

  2. Well done Sudan. IGAD is not fit for the purpose and they only represent Abiy Ahmed interests.
Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Uganda should leave it for good. Kenya can remain as they love kissing Abiy's A$$

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov’s tour of Africa has been widely considered a success in the countries he’s visited, as new horizons for expanding Russia's economic ties with the continent have been explored at numerous high-level meetings.

Lavrov’s latest and final stop in Sudan comes as the media reports that American and European officials are to meet with the North African country's leadership at around the same time.
