Stilfontein Mine | Spoor calls for acceleration of retrieval operations

North West police say more illegal miners are continuing to emerge from underground at different disused shafts in Stilfontein.

Government says it needs seven-point-eight-million-rand to bring all the illegal miners to the surface.

Stilfontein is at the centre of South Africa’s fight against illegal mining. Several illegal miners have been…

How does food reach them, IF THEY CANNOT COME OUT? Fighting for food can only be done by lively and NOT sick people. WHY CAN'T THEY WALK/CRAWL BACK TO WHERE THE FOOD COMES FROM? They definitely possess means that they can surface OUT.

Spoor is just confusing this further, meaning we'll be stuck with this problem of illegal mining…….what's his taon the issue that others are resurfacing, also that the food provided is forcefully taken by the bosses????? I wonder where did MACUA got this Spoor from????

Richard spoor is a mess and all over the place. This interview should have never been this long. He has completely lost the plot. It’s also irresponsible for news outlets to allow disinformation even from guests.

I hate is when people who do not live in black communities, come with their textbook theories and minimise serious problems. Also using a major public platform to push disinformation. It shows he wasn’t even following this thing from when the news broke.

If you don't need a mining license, then anyone can start mining, and no one needs to comply with safety and rules set out by the Department of Mining and Mineral, according to Mr Spoor.

I wonder who is paying Mr Spoor to make these comments and were he himself at these shafts.

How did those guys get in there, and how did they get access to these shafts.

Dear Mr Spoor so when you retrench/fire one of your workers it will not be illigal when they come back and start a shop in your office without paying rent, because they have a family ex.

Perhaps people in the comments dont speak English, was it not clearly explained for you?
They got down 1 by 1 over many months and years using a makeshift single rope pulley system that lowered 1 at a time 2km down this pit.
The police have now demolished this makeshift amateur structure, but even if they hadn't it, would take months and months to get these 800 people out of the mine using this method.

    Bear in mind:
    1. many of these people are so weak they are not even able to stand
    2. Most of them are SA citizens and members of the Stilfontein local community. These are former miners that all lost their jobs when the mining company (which has stolen billions of dollars in gold from this country already) simply abandoned the mine leaving thousands without any means to live.
    3. THEY ARE NOT EVEN COMMITTING ANY CRIME – mining without a license is not a criminal offence!
    4. If government doesnt act immediately nearly a 1000 hard working, mostly South African citizens, are going to die for a "crime" that is basically on the same level as not paying your parking ticket.
    5. If this happens this will be a 200 times worse than Marikana and will make South Africa a disgrace in the eyes of the world.
    6. As a single incident it will be worse than any other single event ever perpetrated by the apartheid government in terms of mass deaths.

WAKE UP SHEEPLE. STOP DEFENDING THE BIG MINING COMPANIES THAT HAVE ALREADY ROBBED US ALL AND THE CORRUPT GOVERNMENT MINISTERS THAT THEY HAVE PAID OFF TO ALLOW THEM TO DO SO!

No one knows how widespread the problem is or how long its been going on all over SA? Do these ppl down there know, they cannot be prosecuted for illegal mining?
This has the potential to get much bigger with more repercussions than the Marikana disaster – also to tarnish SA's integrity in handling humanitarian crisis as well as preventing it.
The smuggle big wigs are still walking free – no arrests or authorities assuring SA something is getting done abt it.
