Minimum wage negotiations cannot be one sided, therefore the organized labor must understand that there are other workers who are not their members that need to be covered by any national wage that the Federal Government approve. Citing the spending nature of the Government and asking them to make sacrifices can only benefit workers associated with organized labor and not the private sector employers. This is the problem here that Nigerians do not seem to understand. Nigerians have argue that the law makers cut down on the salaries and benefits to accommodate wages for the organized labor, the question now is how does that benefit the privates sector workers directly? What needs to be done is for organized labor to accept what the government and the private sector employers have agreed they can afford, then the State governors can determine how much more to offer according to the cost of living in their states. This should be the focus of the organized Labor and not asking for a higher minimum wage across the board that will only be in theory. It is obvious that the Federal Government as not complained so far as the State governors are doing. The present economic situation in the country will not remain for ever and the labor must be careful not to shot themselves on their foot when the economy becomes booming if they are asking too much now.
