The Unforgivable Silence: A Call for Justice and Recognition of the Dinka Bor Genocide

How long will history remain silent? How long will we pretend that the blood of our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters did not flood the land of Bor? How long will the world turn a blind eye to the horrors of 1991 and 2013? The Dinka Bor Genocide is not a matter of political debate it is a historical fact, a stain on the conscience of South Sudan, and an unhealed wound on the soul of the Dinka Bor people.

The hypocrisy is unbearable. The world commemorates other genocides the Holocaust, the Rwandan Genocide, the Armenian Genocide yet when it comes to the Dinka Bor Genocide, there is an eerie silence. Why? Is the suffering of the Dinka Bor people less important? Is our pain less worthy of recognition? Or is it because the perpetrator, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, still walks freely, holding political power as if his hands are not drenched in the blood of innocents?

We cannot rewrite history, but we must correct the shameful omission of this atrocity from global memory. The 1991 massacre, carried out under Machar’s leadership, left thousands dead, villages burned, and entire communities erased. The survivors, many of whom were forced into starvation and exile, still carry the scars. In 2013, the same evil returned, bringing renewed suffering and destruction upon Bor. The intent was clear: to exterminate the Dinka Bor people. If that is not genocide, then what is?

A crime is a crime. There is no justification. There is no excuse. The world must know, and we must demand that history record the truth. It is time to put the commemoration of the Dinka Bor Genocide on the calendar, to build memorials, to educate the next generation, and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. We owe this to our fallen. We owe this to the future.

To ignore this genocide is to participate in its erasure. We will not be silent. We will not forget. The Dinka Bor Genocide must be recognized because justice delayed is justice denied.

The arrest of Vice President Riek Machar marks a dangerous turning point for South Sudan, potentially undoing years of progress achieved through the 2018 peace agreement. The actions taken by the government could exacerbate ethnic tensions and push the nation toward renewed civil conflict. As a concerned South Sudanese citizen, I urge all political leaders, including President Salva Kiir and the SPLM-IO, to prioritize dialogue and uphold their commitments to peace for the sake of the nation's stability and prosperity. It is essential for regional and international bodies to step up their efforts to mediate the situation before it escalates further.
    STOP KILLING CIVILIANS🙏

South Sudanese should not give up this progress because of the jihadists news channel. We stand with Peace and prosperity for SS 🙏 🇺🇬
