The slave narrative of The Cape Muslims is a colonial narractive perpetuated by Muslims who unfortunately trust white writers, more that the truth that is in clear sight. The first Mulsims who arrived in the Cape as a group arrived in 1658 as free craftsmen, farmers and protectors from pending other European invaders for the small Dutch colonists. They were the Mardykers [The Earthly People of Thikr],whom Jan van Riebeeck requested his Dutch government to send to help him. To prepare for their comming the Van Dieman Plakaat was promulgated which prohibited people from dsiturbing the Mardykers Islamic Faith and at the same time preventing them from preaching Islam, because the small colonists generally feared Muslims because they could not enslave them, simply because they fight to die in jihad. The fact that Tuan Guru started the Owal Mosque in 1794 proves that Muslims at the Cape were never slaves, because slaves were only freed in 1843 at the Cape, could not own property, were stripped of their identity and faith and were banned from being educated, yet the Owal Msoque had 700 registered madrassa students .The Muslims did not submit to slavery. That is the reason why sheikh Yusuf, Tuan Guru and other political prisoners /not slaves were exiled to the cape, and Muslims of the cape were free to practice their faith secretly first and the publicly from 1794 when the British took over and had to release Tuan Guru due to their agreement with the Ottoman Empire. They could not make slaves out of the Muslims because islam was well established in the Arcgipelago. Please read my book Bo-Kaap/Cape Muslims were NOT Descendants of Slaves Really the emancipators of slaves , Whatsapp me 0833945701 for you digital copy. It is very interesting and the true history of the Cape Muslims
