South Africa illegal mining standoff: Police plan to bring hundreds of people above ground

Police have barred residents from helping an operation to rescue hundreds of informal miners from a disused gold mine, in South Africa. Members of the miners’ community say the men have been trapped two-kilometers underground by police for months. Police though say the miners are refusing to surface, and face charges.
