Socotra, Somalia’s lost island


The island of Socotra represents around 95% of the landmass of the Socotra archipelago. It lies 380 kilometres (205 nautical miles) south of the Arabian Peninsula, 240 km (130 nmi) east of Somalia. The island is geographically a part of Africa. The island is isolated and home to a high number of endemic species.
