Snoek Braai Recipe | Grilled Barracouta (Thyrsites atun) | Snake mackerel | South African Recipes

Snoek ( Thyrsites atun) on the braai is one of South Africa’s favorite and iconic dishes. This recipe is infused with delicious lemon and garlic butter, and a few herbs. Grilled over a hardwood fire until the snoek is white and flakey. Served with baked “patats”( Sweet potatoes). Perfect!!

  1. oh how I miss Cape Town now….nothing beats a snoek braai…here in NZ I've tried barracouta but it's not the same…too many worms…locals think I'm mad for eating it

  2. There is no nicer fish like it for its nourishment and oilyness. It's just great if U don't mind the bones. I once went to a Fish Market Restaurant and asked the managers for a Snoek dish. Hahaha he was highly taken back as he said, we don't serve Snoek at this establishment…My sister and I couldn't stop laughing…. Hee hee.😊😅😂..Luv your dish Mame…😅

  4. Many years past, friends, old comrades and family had braai cookups, one of the favourites was smoked honey glazed sweet Snoek..
years later I used the same recipe on Pike and Mackerel in Canada..

  5. I miss eating fresh snoek…never thought Bay leaves would work with snork. Would paprika not be better than smoked paprika? I don't like it in its smoked format!
Would cod/ kabbeljou work in this way too?
