Skilled Immigrants in Canada with heightened unemployment

Skilled Immigrants in Canada with heightened unemployment is a live stream about the doom and gloom of life abroad, particularly in Canada. A lot of professionals apply for the Canadian P.R but soon get trapped in the filtering system which stalls their progress due having no Canadian Experience.

  1. I don’t like rants against taxes…the tax rate is highest in Europe where standards of living are highest and they love what they’ve built. Same with USA… constant fight against those who don’t want to pay their fair share (corporations and businesses) and those who want a good nation of dams, bridges, roads, court system, ports, national parks, etc. we have almost a million legal and illegal immigrants per year. I don’t think any other nation has ever seen such constant numbers.

  2. As a Canadian African, I can say this: when you come to Canada with your educational qualifications, don't bother looking for a career job. Go back to school for a year or two. While you are at school, take any part time Canadian job…do not mind about the type of job. Just make sure that the job you take is within your targeted career path.
For example, if you want a job in IT, take a lowly helpdesk job…don't aim for the Network engineer job. You will not get it. Take that low helpdesk/support job in a call center and do it well. Then use that in your resume and apply for better jobs. You will get better jobs after school.this way.

But you will go nowhere in Canada, if you come with just your Nigerian or Cameroonian qualification.

Other than that, Canada is a pretty depressing place in many ways anyways… especially if you are in BC or Ontario. The rent is high, and the cost of living is generally high. The taxes are also high…the weather is depressing…many places are also dull and boring. Just do what you have to do to make money to invest back home. That is my take.

  3. Phrankleen. I am studying HR in Canada. This system is a well designed system, but a bad one. You see according to what am learning. Canada keeps immigrant out because the processes an HR takes in recruiting is that you need to verify credentials to see if the person going to take the job is qualified for the Job. For example if as an HR person hired an immigrant from Nigeria let say is working in Civil engineering. But he does not have Canadian education or experience. According to Canadian law i am not supposed to hire someone who has a different qualification from Canada, because the company could get sued if such individual i hired did a mistake on the job, due to the fact that he got maybe a fake credential, and that could end my job as an HR or i could go to jail for negligent hiring. There are no way to verify foreign credentials In Canada, because HR people don't know where Ogun state university is, assuming you got your degree from there, and plus that Ogun state university could have changed their name to a different name which makes the degree you got, not qualified to be used, because we cant verify the university you got your degree from because of the change of name. so we HR people only use Canada as an easier way to verify credentials, because its a hassle for us to verify foreign credentials and we need to fill the row quickly.
The laws here state that we must not hire somebody from outside the country without considering Canadians and permanent residents first, what that means is that they assume such Canadian or permanent resident will have Canadian education.
It also states that we must verify credentials thoroughly because it is assumed the person might not know how to do the Job after they are hired and could get the company sued if such person makes a mistake on the job for example an accountant did errors in the calculations of the balance sheet.
So my point it the laws that keep Hiring managers from hiring foreign credentials, because they are scared. what need to change is the laws. Remember we say immigration is a business', it not just a business, it backed up with laws to keep you stuck. So it a deliberately made system.

  4. I don't care how many degrees you have, If you think you an African should be treated better than the indigenous people of north America by these Government and can't see how stupid that is… I could only cry for you…

  5. I wonder what these folks think of their government giving the top Jobs to people from other countries,, they would be pissed but they think that the western gov should give these opportunities to them,,. That is pure ass ah 9 ,,So Phanklyn answer this How does US and Canada treat the indigenous people of north America.. Why the hell would they treat you any better…

  6. On misconception, you are right though but its just a vicious cycle. Mind you some comments are not made by me. And I hear yewande i’m like when did I send that comment. Lol so Hello to the other Yewande😅

  7. Oshay isn't who you think he is. I know people who work very closely for him in Africa. The things he does/says there would get him cancelled at the very least. Not to mention he spent years sh**in on Africa/ans fir years until he moved there to exploit.

  8. Immigrating to the West: Many will lose. Many will succeed. A few will hit an absolute jackpot. I live in the United States-45 years. The USA has nothing to offer except opportunity (in abundance). Plan your move very carefully. Seek hard skills like plumbing, carpentry, electrician-you can't lose! Emphasize entrprenurship-you can't lose. I personally know Nigerians who started in absolute poverty and ended up super multi millionaires. It is not easy but very achievable. I also know quite a few broken men. Their system can be hacked to your benefit and advantage. It's not about academic degrees. It's about street smarts. Chuka Uwechia, JD., MBA.

  9. My recommendation is Think it over very carefully before you decide to immigrate to Canada: you will regret it! Consider other options like immigrating to Burkina Fasso or Sierra Leon! You have a better chance of getting a job in either of these countries.

  10. The fact that you don't agree with Christianity doesn't mean you should make a mockery of it. I grew up in Ekiti and did voodoo (unlike you city boy) but I can tell you that voodoo is INFERIOR to the power of Jesus. I have done it both and I know the name of Jesus Christ is superior. We can chat more about this if you are willing to talk. Nevertheless, your topics on immigration and life in the diaspora is great.

  11. As an actor you will excel… had a great laugh with some of your examples lol. You spilled facts, most people living abroad are not willing 2tell people the real truth, and wen some do, we tagged them jealous and selfish… we conclude they dont want us relocating as well.
