Sir Graham Henry Reflects on World Cup Wins & Losses, 54-Year Marriage, Depression & More!

Sir Graham Henry (aka “Ted”) is one of the greatest All Black coaches of all time.
He left the role with a win record of 85% from 103 test matches.

In 2011, with a little help from his friends, he coached the All Blacks to a Rugby World Cup win, breaking a 24-year drought.

This was made even more remarkable on account of a thing…

  1. Graham Henry wouldn't have let the All Blacks lose the last two World Cups if he hadn't retired. Last year's Rugby World Cup to South Africa was the worst public humiliation ever for our All Blacks and embarrassing. As so was the Rugby World Cup four years before last. 2011 was Graham Henry's last Rugby World Cup win as our All Blacks coach. When Ian Foster took over. We had lost two Rugby World Cup finals to South Africa twice in a row. South African Springboks enjoy humiliating our ABs internationally by winning via cheating and having one of their own refs as referees.

If Graham Henry hasn't announced his retirement as Head Coach of the All Blacks we would have won the last two Rugby World Cups. And that's all true.

  2. Lovely interview, and lovely comments about Raywen. I'd like to have heard more about how he balanced self-preservation vs team and others, in particular the other coaches. Thanks Dom.

  3. When the person is talking dom that's when you need to stop. Also stop asking close ended questions. There was a number of times that you could see Graham was quite annoyed.

  4. Great interview Dom!
It's awesome to listen Graham Henrys, especially about depression and him saying its not about me, it's about them the team! So good!
