  2. KENYAN MUSIC IDENTITY

Our true musical identity and for all East and Central Africa is Rhumba.

Rhumba is at the heart of East and Central African music.

Go listen to the classic East African greats like Les Wanyika, Maroon Commandoes, Bana Marquis, Franco et TP OK, Tshala Muana, Mbilia Bel, Habel Kifoto, Mushrooms and others and you will hear the true heart and soul of East African music.

Rhumba brings together Swahili culture, Bantu Culture, Lake region culture and even Kongo culture….Coast to Coast – That is our music.

Sauti Sol have thrived because they sound authentic. Their music is a version of Rhumba.

BONGO music is straight up Rhumba – Listen to Diamond Koffi grand collabo – pure Rhumba.

Listen to Ali Kiba – Rhumba.

See Kongo music – Fally Ipupa, Koffi – All versions of East Afrika Rhumba.

If you want to make it across the hundreds of culture from the East Coast of Africa, across with the equator to the central west coast….root yourself in Rhumba.

If you do Gengetone, rap etc…..you limit yourself to a very narrow audience and your music is very short lived and quickly forgotten.

There is something about Rhumba that is very inclusive and versatile.

It also is very mature music….in terms of themes…unlike rap and ragga which at times can be very juvenile, and poor quality. (That is more noise than music)

Anyway. Maybe I am very biased as I am Rhumba forever! ❤

  3. I think Rhumba has been our longest Brand. That is why, Sauti Soul and Eric Wainaina wali bobea kiasi. But Big love to the Genge squad great memories.

  4. I almost bought Mgenge Tru clothing, I even communicated directly. But bro, everything is very expensive. I really want to wear Mgenge products but please work out on the cost. All of the products are above 4k, hata ngepa

  5. Mgenge Mtrue, Mimi ni fan wako for life. But hii story ya Hatupendi Culture yetu… lakini Urban Tone na Genge tone surely!!!!! Hizo vitu siwezi skiza ata na madawa. I think you old guys should teach the young generation the way forward.
