American singer Kelly Rowland visited Nelson Makamo’s âBlueâ exhibition in Los Angeles, California, and had nothing but praise for the South African artist.
Makamo launched his first independent US solo exhibition, Blue, to showcase his latest body of work.
It was the diversity in the contemporary art landscape in inner-city Los Angeles that prompted Makomo and his team to select this location.
The âLike Thisâ singer shared her experience of the exhibition on Instagram and snapped a picture with Makamo, captioning the post:
âDearest @nelsonmakamo.
âWe were truly blown away by your show today! There are no words to describe what we saw.
âEvery single piece is so incredibly unique, rooted, and spiritual!
âThank you for your gift! Love you always!â
Earlier this month, Makamo was also pictured with rapper Jay-Z at the premiere of âThe Harder They Fallâ.
Speaking about his exhibition, Makomo said it has been in production since 2017.
âFinally, my own independent international show here in LA. It actually feels great,â said the award-winning artist.
âWhen the team and I initially started the conversation about this show back in 2017, we didnât realise the hard work and commitment that would go into it.
âAnd what a journey itâs been! Having just successfully opened this past weekend, made it all worth it for us.â
On the inspiration behind the exhibition, the 39-year-old artist said: âWith the latest piece of work, âBlueâ, we don’t only want to share our story, but invite people to the exhibition to be a part of the conversation.
âAs much as I live on the African continent, I donât want my work to only have a frame of where I live in South Africa.
âIt’s about connecting artists on a global platform through this exhibition.
âAnd like all my previous work, the underlying theme of this exhibition is about hope.â
