Scientists 'shocked' at new Stonehenge discovery | BBC News
The six-tonne Altar Stone at the heart of Stonehenge came from the far north of Scotland rather than south-west Wales as previously thought, new analysis has found.
It means that the stone was brought about 700km (434 miles), from Scotland, to the ancient monument, near Salisbury in south-west England.
The discovery shows the construction…

Fascinating but you do know , you must know that Walse is older than England
Stonehenge was not built for a single purpose. Rather, the purpose of it would have changed over the generations. It was a sacred site for millennia, but how each century used it from 8000 BC on (approximately, if I recall) would have changed. It didn't follow a single design plan that was passed on by word-of-mouth from generation to generation.
I heard this information years ago on tv documentary. It has been shown that animals were hearded to stonehenge from northern parts too for festivals during the autumn/winter months. It would seem that all the neolithic peoples may have gathered at stonehenge. Considering the seeming lack of means of communication a pretty considerable feat.
I find it beautiful that Stonehenge has stone from each of the British nations 😊
An archaeologist has found an application to the Arts Council dated 3000BC for a grant to create "a freestanding sculpture in a field in Wiltshire".
A stone at Stonehenge came from Scotland?
No! No! Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggghhhh!
Ice age..glacier moved it 🙄🙄🤔🤔😎
Idiots still talking about ‘boats’ and ‘sledges’…..😂
No one remembers shit at one year old…
Long distance stonery!
Yes, we British are the master race after all…
Well they brought the rocks there in there wooden boats..and made stonehedge so there buddies "the aliens" could park there ufo on'm..💯🌎
See's picture…yeah i remember i was there in 1992, with my dad,and i was one year old.
Nah,no ya don't but it sounds good 😂
Stonehenge are only strong plastic pieces to attract tourism.
MAYBE THEY LEVITATED THE STONES! Remember THE CORAL CASTLE IN FLORIDA!
To land craft
The thing is we can not get to the bottom of the truth, if they'll be a win and loose situation, lot of countries have hidden information because of that, how many kings that have destroyed monuments at the past because of power, love from South Africa
Only and only by using extraterrestrial very advanced technology . It's very simple so stop bullshitting and go with the flow . Common sense and logic would help you greatly . Meanwhile get with the program and have enough guts to do your own research dude . Grow the hell up and smell the roses .
A reminder that man made borders are actually imaginary lines. Nevertheless, it would be actual news when they discover its use and original shape.
Wha, wha, wha what? Man remembers being a one year old? Hold the Press! Now that’s a story, should have been the banner they ran with 😂
While I'm extremely chill with the idea that many cultures came together and built the monument as a collective effort, it seems far more likely to me that different cultures contributed at different times , which might have been a century or more apart in their efforts, but close enough together to be barely distinguishable five thousand years later. Similarly, it seems to me that a big stone like that one would be as likely… possibly more likely, carried by advancing and receding glaciation, or cataclysmic flood. (Don't get me wrong. I feel very certain that ancient peoples had capabilities we can not even fathom, but…)
More British lies of human history.
Three brothers ruled three kingdoms. One built a monument, another "improved" it to establish his superiority. The third brought the biggest stone, the farthest distance, to prove that he will always be the eldest and strongest ! !
Maybe the builders were immigrating south n brought the stone with them !!!?
I wish they would look more into why they thought it would be a good idea to bring that particular stone that far. They must have thought it had some sort of religious significance. Or possibly it was to honour someone from that region?
(I'd have thought the interconnection was a given. Weren't they all celts at that time?)
Glastonbury is also in Scotland
I'm being hopelessly modern I know, but I can't help thinking that it probably took more time to sort out the bureaucracy than drag the thing to Salisbury Plane.
How does a someone hold a memory of something that happened when they were 1-year old? WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CROCK OF SHIT!!!
Waiting for the Daily Mail headlines… oh, wait, it was nothing to do with the war or colonialism or islands 6000 miles away! Instead it was about an interconnected nation, not divided by national boundaries, working towards a common goal. And we call them primitive, when in fact it’s us who have regressed as a speices into petty infighting about imaginary borders.
Too bad that cohesion didnt last thru all British History. ( Irish potato famine, the Scottish Clearances, northern Irelands "troubles"…)😮😢
That shows the people of Scotland actually are the original Brits , but were forced to live in the highlands which in my opinion would be the last type of environment one would want to live in , that Stonehenge is a marker of territory from Scotland to where it is now , collaboration with who? If it was one nation until the Vikings,Normans, Romans etc came and did their thing
Just like stones have been reused from previous constructions all over the country.
Could the stone have arrived there in stages over many, many years?
Which demostrates we were a united people with common interests and stories and beliefs in our beginnings before England, Wales and Scotland even became a thing! Oh that it were so now!
Stone henge was stolen from Ireland.
Stonehenge is beyond fascinating to me. It is mysterious, fascinating, amazing and we will probably never understand.
ET friends helped move all of the stones. Believe it. And in a few short years they will make themselves widely known to us all 😊
B/S no one remembers being 1 year old, the BBC think we are really daft.
Congratulations on your Uniting Discovery. This is the very best of news for everyone around the world. You are a Hero! Thank you for your knowledge and work. ❤
Ice age probably moved it 99% off the way first obviously, yee
Let's just get a grip here. This could easily be a glacial erratic brought down from Scotland by the glaciers. They are all over the northern hemisphere and many are much larger. Could have been transported of course, but one should consider the alternative.
So, the Scots invented the modern world AND the pre-historic world!! 😂😂
Historians, Archaeologists and scholars will lie
The truth is that the ancients had advanced technology, and were tracking stars, and celestial events using the Babylonian Zodiac.
maybe they were a form of currency?
What else did they have to do back then? Why not drag boulders cross country. Beats sitting in a cave the whole day.
