I think the massive tooth brought to its demise. The canines grow longer each generations that they no longer can’t open jaw enough to fully utilised the tooth. They can’t feed their huge bodies on small animals and gradually died out. My theory😂

@VSG117

Funny how they originally thought it was a hyena type, and then changed their mind, yet kept the tall front legs… is there any other feline in history built like that or are they just guessing

@veer-ps4nv

It was more lion than it was a tiger

@runkorko

Not rly. Jaguars, leopards, tigers, lions, are way more dangerous. They kill you with one bite. Saber way of killing was diferent. They first wrestle their prey, then execute precise bite to throat. I dont think they hunt smalk prey. First they were not agile, or fast. Second, rhe gat between their canines, will make it harder to puncture small neck size prey as humans. This doesnt mean they wont kill you, but will give you time to react and fight back. Even if one spear/knife stab may not save you, or kill the animal, in long run may prove lethal. Believe it or not, preadators do everything possible to avoid injuries. other cats wont have such problems, your neck will snap before you even react…. Thats why they survive, and sabers dont. When we over hunt their prey, they vanish too.

@StevenHughes-hr5hp

Were sabertooths ever the largest cats? Or were they more mid sized? How would they compare to a cave lion or an American lion?

@SaGe-f5l

почему у саблезубых моржей такие клыки….

@scottdavis1549

Sabre tooth tigers never existed. Its mouth couldn’t open wide enough to eat. It’s a mix and match.. total bs.

@Fred-vy1hm

The worst creature to run into? Arctodus Simus and Arctotherium Angustidens have entered the chat. 🐻

@nicholassmith1240

Just visited La Brea. Very interesting. Great video.

@derekbates4316

Did he just call a marsupial a "non-mammal"? Who is this douche?

@wmden1

This is a fine, educational video. Thank you, RoaringEco. It was well produced and well narrated, with few AI mistakes. It held my attention, more than most. I knew the Smilodon Populator was some larger and more robust than any modern big cats, but I had no idea that 1000 pounds was about average, for an adult male. I am glad I wasn't born when this and the Short Faced Bear were common.

I truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work.

Aren’t u the smart Banana guy??? 😂😂😂😂😂

@marlonbrown5736

can that smiladon dominate bears of todays species

If you're going to do these kinds of videos it might be a good idea to try to find out how many of these names are supposed to be pronounced — and even some common ordinary everyday words, as well. It would also be good if your pronunciations didn't change throughout the course of the video.

"Like a video game…"???? That's a pretty sappy comment.

@jackedavocado8689

160 years ago in Brazil? You mean 160 thousand years😂😂

@paulofearghail9408

There was no such thing as a saber-toothed "tiger." Smilodon and it's relatives were only distantly related to the panthera genus. Using this term immediately signals that you don't know much about prehistoric animals and that your video is not worth anyone's time.

@terryr7622

And there are scientists who want to bring back these monsters?

@germanirish2

Never was a Saber toothed "tiger".

@tonypuga2502

Smilodon is not pronounced like smile 😁,

I was really enjoying this video until the part claiming that the American lion was bigger than Smilodon. When will you people start looking at the evidence, instead of regurgitating this often repeated FALSE information. Smilodon Populator is the biggest cat that ever existed in every way that we know about. The American lion wasn't even close. Get it right for God's sake!
