The SA Revenue Service announced last month that it would apply new rules to both Shein and Temu as of the 1st of July 2024, allowing parcels brought in by the Chinese retailers to be taxed the same as local clothing at 45% plus VAT.

SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter said they would continue to clamp down on these retailers as the amount…

  1. Their clothes are poor quality rubbish. I do alterations and I fix brand new rubbish, but I can't make clothing any more because I can't compete with the price. One of a kind, well fitting clothing compared to ill fitting badly made. They are dumping their rubbish on us.

  2. Squatters and the pollution with the sewerage on the streets and into the oceans mean the entire country is a disaster.
From the politics to the toilets, the entire thing is a disaster. WHAT DID YOU ALL DO WRONG?

  3. This month I bought a black "bubble"ankle length coat at Mr Price for under R400. Thank you Sh£in. 🙏🙏🙏Been seeing them on AZEEUN markets for the last ten years. If it wasnt for the cpmpetition, they will keep making nothing longer, below the hips, because it needs more fabric, less profit. The fashion is 10 years behind the times.

  4. The South African textile and fashion industry needs to do better! I'm not paying more for cheap, ugly clothes. Don't get me wrong; I will pay provided that the product is well made, doesn't have poor stitching, and doesn't fade easily, but even the expensive shops are selling knock-offs now.

  5. Isn't it time dat South African retailers stop acting like someone stole their favourite toy and look at why we buy from Temu and Shein. I am a plus size woman. I also want to look pretty. My options are Edgars, Foshini's, Truworths, Woolworths, Pick and P clothing and Pep. I can buy a whole outfit from underwear to footware, a dress/pants, a t-shirt/sweater/jersey from Temu, excellent quality for the price of one of these items at one of those shops. The choises are endless, while when I have to go shopping at South African clothing retailers it will take a whole day or multiple days, and seldom will I find 1 item that costs the same as all of those together. Quality is poor, choices in my size are minimal, client service is terrible – they do you a favour to sell clothes to you. So rather than searching a whole day long and finding nothing, I can sit in my armchair and pick out anything I can dream about in my size and colour and like I said excellent quality.

  6. It's not about the price, it's about the variety of products. Seen the same with Amazon, they tried creating something that already exists, instead of opening up internationaly so consumers have access to stock from abroad

  7. South African retailers need to game up and not cry wolf, the clothes have no variations to design and style, its like the same old boring thing again and again and on top of that its ridiculously expensive

  8. Let them bring their prices down. Our retailers exploit us. It is a fact. Everytime when poor people found a way to survive SARS is being used to manipulate its own people. Where is the free and open market

  9. Wrong one man loses 3.5 billion which he usually stashes over seas meaning SA loses that money anyway…So yeah makes no difference atleast the chinese charge less…so let em have it 🤷

  10. Alicia oh so lovely Jali ❤ Ha e le monna a le mong ya o ratang, ke nna.. StrusBob😂… Ha ke rate le ditaba! Ke tla mona bakeng sa hau.. Let me love u and leave u causw Emzini Wezinsizwa's Mofokeng will show up now now – a tagilwe gape, going into our bizzwax😢

  11. China is mos EFF zuma cyril and its voters ally. China also had illegal under age foreigners in a shop in durvan and that story was barely spoken about. Blame West while China is busy with illegal activity, union must be happy
