European military forces are in horrible shape to fight a large scale conventional war. Long neglected and downsized.
Sanctions have never accomplished anything. They're a feel good half-measure.

If you want peace, prepare for war. But, "once-traditional foes"? It's been decades since England and France were at war against Germany, and over 200 years since they were against each other. It seems more than a bit late to consider those matters.
