Victory Day parade has been arranged regulary in Russia since 2008. The first time it was arranged on 1945 but the WWII was still going on agaist Japan, which surrendered on the autum 1945. So it has nothing to do with winning of WWII but only the war time Germany.

Russia does have something to be proud of in history, yet I hate the historical wool pulling that 27 million Russians died fighting Hitler in the great patriotic struggle. The fact is 15 million did die from the Russian state (to which the world owes a big debt). But SEVEN MILLION Ukrainian citizens died as brothers in arms alongside them, despite Ukraine having only a third of the population.
