Well for sumanguru to become ruler he killed 11 of the 12 sons who were the heir to the throne.
He didn't kill sundiata Keita because he was crippled a sickler and he was a child at that time but he later rose and killed sumanguru.

MY family had to do a family tree and research our history as far back as possible and it shows I have a mixture of Mali empire, Mandingo or Mandinka tribe and Senegal. I'm going to go deeper into each culture and history and plan a trip to each one if possible.

Perhaps the use of the adjective 'greatest' is not the best one in this instance? The empire of Mali was built and opeated upon the conquest and slavery of fellow Africans. The topic of slavery animates so many today, and yet 'pre-colonial slavery' barely gets a mention, despite it being so prevelant across the Continent.
Mansa Musa's wealth came from directly selling slaves, selling gold and selling salt (both mined by slaves).
