I found Chromakopia to be an exploration of identity surrounded by synth sounds that made me want to howl at the moon. This is only the second Tyler, the Creator album I've listened to, and compared to Igor, this album doesn't have one over-arching narrative but rather vignettes of individuals in moments where they come to terms with who they are.

I think what makes this album so special is that it's all about being yourself. This of course includes suffering for it (Hey Jane) and judging yourself for not doing so (Take Your Mask Off). "Never let nobody dim your light."

My favorite part of Chromakopia is the fact that you can tell when tyler is Speaking with his mask on (St. Chroma) and when he doesnt speak with his mask on (tyler himself), By example, songs like Rah Tah Tah and Sticky are more so braggadocious in style meaning that tyler isnt being entirely himself but in songs like Like Him and Thought I Was Dead are songs where tyler is honest to the listener about his emotions, interesting detail imo

You should listen to Doechii’s Aligator Bites Never Heal she was the feature on Balloon in this album. It’s one of the best releases this year.
If you listen to Tyler’s older albums , he talked and vented about not having a present dad a lot and Like Him was such a good resolution to that as his mother admitted to deliberately keeping his father from meeting him. I sobbed and had to take a break from listening after that song lol 😭 (If you want more artists like Tyler: listen to Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, and Steve Lacy- they all have differences in style but they’re really easy to get into as someone who likes Tyler!)

as far as hiphop albums that are a must listen. To Pimp A Butterfly- Kendrick Lamar is one of, if not the best hip hop albums of all time.
my favorite tyler album is Flower Boy. i'd also recommend 4:44 by jay z / Anti by Rihanna / Sometimes Introvert by Little Simz…. all timeless albums.

the Like Him reaction is so real, I mean the first time I heard that I felt like I was ascending. It feels a lot like my younger self. I didn’t see my Dad for years, I’d message him and get no response, have days where he was supposed to pick me up, and he wouldn’t show. So I barely saw him for so much of my life. It really did feel like I was chasing a ghost. I wondered if it was my fault. But same as the song implies, my mother was keeping him from me so much of the time because she didn’t want me to be even more hurt. Once he was back in my life, I heard so much from my mother saying how I look like him, to this day even. “I don’t look like him” feels like my denial that I do in fact look like him. It’s like part of me doesn’t want to be like him at all.
