  1. Celtic had gaps in there support in that 84 league cup final, Rangers to be fair i dont think ive ever seen gaps on the terraces for finals certainly since 1980 to 1992 then Hampden got smaller and seated

  2. Crowds really were poor at home pre Souness, away same as Celtic huge away supports and at Hampden for finals,1983 scottish cup final at the end Rangers fans going wild behind Fergie when interviewed when he gets angry and thats after a late goal defeat to Aberdeen

  3. Wow some fans were brutal to Greig, incredible to think but then again Stein ,Mcneil, McCoist Wallace all took stick at the end so i suppose sadly part of the course when a manager of the old Firm doesn't get results

  4. Never missed a game at home under John Grieg… thing was he to loyal to his pals in the team… esp davie cooper…. Who was talent but not as fit as he could have beennn if you ask me he played his best soccer under sounesss….. John Grieg was,not bad in Europe..

  5. Couldn’t help but chuckle, at Archie’s line “Rangers form getting more headline inches than the Lebanon” … here we are again 40years later and history is repeating itself lol

  6. I believe souness arrival at rangers in 86 was the beginning of the end of what was a great product.
It was a slow demise with both celtic and aberdeen still challenging and winning trophies and dundee utd reaching a european final.
But within 6 years celtic were in disarray and aberdeen and dundee utd went into a slow decline.
The money souness spent bringing half the england side, coupled with the bosman ruling meant nobody could compete once we hit the 90s.
Scottish clubs deserted their own talent and bought second rate foreigners.
In fact souness would prove to be nothing more than a chequebook manager as he was average at every club after rangers, with walter smith proving to be a better tactical and man manager.
Its also a shame that alex ferguson left aberdeen not long after souness arrived as i believe he would have stopped rangers from dominating the 90s.

  7. I would say the current rangers side is worse than this one.
I say that cause at least greig and wallaces side had heart with some genuine talent and had to deal with european powerhouses at that time like aberdeen and dundee utd.
And celtic had an excellent side also.
I know this was a difficult time for rangers but the 80s was the last great decade in scotlands top flight.
Interesting fact btw, celtic, aberdeen, rangers and dundee utd had a stranglehold on the trophies at that time, with st mirren the only other club to win a trophy,in 87 against utd in jim macleans jinx cup competition.

  8. Loved that season because i was then going every week, home and away. I was 14 and that new found freedom plus the league cup final in the march was amazing.
