  1. ITS FINE THEY CANNOT WIN THEY ARE THERE TO SELL TICKETS WINNING A major they have zero chance i am an old timer love Jack AND Arnie But come on its over hardest thing for a very good pro to do is say i am done in majors

  2. Iโ€™ll easily tell you this much if Liv top golfers are not present at the Open I will NOT be watching. Have you seen the Crap golf being played on the P.G.A. Tour lately??? PATHETIC.

  3. By the way, it was only back in 2007 they dropped the age exemption from 65 to 60. Before it was 65 it was a lifetime exemption. Believe it or not, there once was a time when the British Open couldn't get enough players to fill the field. That's not the case anymore, that's why they are dropping the age down. Also, it does NOT AFFECT PHIL!

  4. Hi Alex, Phil will still be able to play until he is 60 as this only affects winners of the open from this year …John Daly is 58 and will play this year …you need to be a little more accurate

  5. Let's just call it the British Open LOL
Actually considering the current rules let's call it the British Invitational since the local and sectional qualifying spots are mostly gone and LIV golfers have been disinvited

  6. The problem with letting aging past champoons play is that they no longer can compete at that level and are taking a place of a hungry golfer who potentionally is not finacally secure. I would bring the age diwn to 50 unkess they are playing full time on the PGA or WDP tour.. any LIV golfer should go through the qualifing rounds as they only play 3 rounds with no cut.

  7. The golf world will not consider the Majors as true Major Tournaments without the best players in the world competing. Watered down talent in the majors will not happen.

  8. Already less excited about Open Championships etc when best and exciting players will not present. Will we have a Corn F rookie leading / winning soon like in resent PGA tournaments?

  9. And Geez, Growing The Game of Golf and it's not coming out of LIV???? Wow, shocking!!!!….The PGA will be just fine, with the newer players, and some of the players who stayed….The LIV on the Golf Channel was sort of compared to The Champions Tour, but just a few years younger…and they also complain a bit more…..Sad!!!!!

  10. With players staying competitive well into their 50s today I think this is a poor decision. It wasn't that long ago that Tom Watson was at the top of the leaderboard going into Sunday and he was well above the perceived age of contenders. Golf is the one sport left that is built on tradition and it seems lately the governing bodies are doing everything they can to turn their backs on it.

  11. The R&A should be distancing themselves from the current situation. First Impressions are that they are giving opportunities to any tour except LIV. Having LIV players in other tour series takes away an opportunity for the upcoming players on those tours. It has shown that LIV players have dominated certain events on those tours recently. This does not grow the game. What about The Open Qualifying? If top LIV players go down the qualifying route it takes away the opportunity for other aspiring golfers. The Majors will be worse off for not having the best players at their events. Using OWGR as their criteria produces a weaker field currently. We all want to see the best players competing for majors with also the opportunity of a surprise from an unknown player jumping up the leaderboard.

  12. While we all like to see the "old timers" playing in the Open, one has to balance that with introducing new faces. Gone are the days when a club pro could qualify for a place and the Open isn't really open any more. That's progress.

  13. I think changes to the โ€œexemptionโ€ rule to 55years of age is a good move (cos, letโ€™s be honest, theyโ€™re not going to win it after that age are they) BUT, it should start with/from this yearโ€™s champion.

  14. To be honest Iโ€™m not bothered about an ex champion who couldnโ€™t normally qualify playing. Free up some slots for more young players to have a go. Or give more slots to open qualifiers

  15. Must be a second agenda that R&A why they reduced the age for past champions? They all earned the right to play. They are not taking anyone elseโ€™s spot

  16. Whatโ€™s the beef w guys who r turning 60? Those guys deserve their moment in the sun play 1st 2 days then their off. Friday when they r 60 they get their iconic photo on 18 bridge and thatโ€™s that. Ridiculous who dreams up this shit in smoke filled back rooms.
