The pygmies of central Africa are facing an uncertain future. With loggers, conservationists and the lure of ‘progress’ closing in, can the pygmies find a place in the modern world?

  1. First of all we have to stop calling these important people of the forest pygmies because its a very disrespectful way to refer to someone as such. In the forest of Zaire are a small statured people called Bambuti which consist of two groups the Embuti and the Efe. They are the earliest links to humankind and the first known human type as what we know today as homo sapiens Sapiens that emerged some 250 to 350 thousand years ago who peopled the rest of the world. The 4.5 million year old fasil found in Ethiopia (Lucy) was a small stature Hominid woman of the so- called pigmy type. This is not here say as it is buttressed, documented and verified by the anthropological data as a operative scientific fact backed up by the data. These small statured people can be found in western and central Africa as well, who we refer to as the Baka people. South Africa in the Kalahari you can also find the small statured people called the San. This name "Pigmy" emerged during the early 19th century and perhaps earlier by British traveler John Barrow who travels Into the Interior of Southern Africa (1806). These groups of people have names and should be referred by their names not some derogatory name to suit someone sick mentality. It is obvious the narrator is reading form a script and has done no meaningful research of his own as he continues to be disrespectful by calling them pygmies. . These groups thrive as hunter and gatherers who practice the purist form of what we know as communisms or shall I say egalitarianism. They have fought no wars or imposed themselves on any one or nations through out their existence. They practice a form of sharing and caring that has sustained themselves for many thousands of years but have been interrupted and infringed on by Arab slavery, colonialism, and other neighboring countries. Their main problem has and still is the effects of colonialism that precipitated the over killing of forest animals (poaching) for sport when Europe colonized Africa. Africans have thrived for thousands of years without depleted nature and it wasn't until the Europeans and Americans arrived when resources began to be depleted. They are and have been the main problem for Africa and the Baka and the Embuti people because of the so-called preservation which is essentially caused by Europe and American industrialism directly or indirectly regarding the mass deforestation caused by logging which has profoundly not only effected the African way of life but the ecosystem as well. Their lives have been greatly disrupted due this unfortunate reality and now they have to work for those who caused the downfall off Africa. These small statured people were first observed by the Kemetian (Egyptians) during an exhibition to find the source of the Nile River in the 4th dynasty. In the tomb of Pharaoh Nefrikare is preserved (coffin text) a report from his commander Herkouf, who entered a great forest to the West of the Mountain of the Moon and discovered there a people of the tress, a tiny people who sing and dance to their God, a dance such as had never been seen before. Nefrikare sent a reply ordering Herkouf to bring one of these dancers of God back with him, giving explicit instructions as to how he should be treated and cared for so that no harm would come to him. As a result of this contact the small statured people are written in the annuals of Egyptian (Kemet) history as they became apart of Egyptian life and ultimately had important position in the society such as blacksmiths and jewelers. The Ankh is a symbol that represent eternal life and the tittle or name given to these small statured people was "Ankhi" The living one. What a name. We also have the ancient Egyptian deity Bes (so-called pigmy) who was worshipped as a protector of households and, in particular, of mothers, children, and childbirth. Bes later came to be regarded as the defender of everything good and the enemy of all that is bad. So, when we mentioned these small statured people, mention them with high regard as a great people to whom we should pay homage to and to whom we owe are allegiance to.

  2. In the name of Progress… Old the story, always the same conclusion.
I believe, which means nothing, return to the forest – taking back only ways and means to modern-medicine's simplest and effective remedies… gastrointestinal and diseases.

  3. We live in a world who thinks upside down. Materialism over spirituality. Before Europeans set their foot to Africa, the continent never knew mass killing disease (every disease was healed by plants found in the forest), poverty or misery.
The west didn't understand the connection to mother earth was the way to live.
Wearing nice clothes, having highways (…) don't make you rich. What makes you rich is understanding the deep connection that one should have with other humans and nature.
No wonder why there are so many suicide, mass shootings, pedophilia (…) in the west.
    Found the mistake…

  4. Beans, just bring them bean seeds. doesn't take long to plant a few dozen seeds each day. IN 6 weeks you have green beans. All types of melons and squashes also easy to grow. Chickens are easy to keep, they eat insects and give eggs and meat.

  5. The world should pay tax to these last truly Homo sapiens. Encourage them to live in the forest, and religious people should not be allowed to instill there fairytale beliefs upon them…

  6. Who cares about the protests in Europe. Europeans need to worry about Europe and Africans need to worry about Africa. And the two should not interfere with the others affairs regarding their land.
