Prepaid Meters | EC communities want Eskom to extend deadline

With less than 48 hours until the deadline for prepaid electricity users to re-code their meters, some residents in the rural town of Ngqeleni in the Eastern Cape want power utility Eskom to extend the deadline. The villagers say they were given short notice to comply. Some claim they were not even aware of the re-coding of their meters.

  1. This is confusing about deadline "extensions". I thought this was an in-built coding issue that forcefully expires at a point in time. Everyone though in the video, is asking for an extension – is this really possible? If not (as I understand it), that needs to be made very clear every time this is reported on. As I understood it, there is no technical possibility off an extension. But another valid point made, is we as an entire population no longer all watch The News at 8. Communication channels need to be diversified.

  2. So whatever happening in Uganda also is happening in South Africa. I salute Africa presidents ganging up to give problems to citizens 😅😅😅😅😅

  3. Eskom should have sent officials to the villages long ago, write urgent notice in local official languages outside all their offices so that if a person missed the message they can seenit themselves when they go to the offices. All they did was speak English with journalist. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE CAMPAIGN. ESKOM MANAGEMENT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION!

  4. There can not be an extention. The box will shut down like it was intended. Its hard coded to do that. You cant ask a machine to do thr impossible.
