Free fall is a melodic rap song and can be nominated too
Tyla is definitely not getting that nomination for Pop Vocal Album. There’s a WHOLE LOT of competition there. We have Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, etc.
Her team should have submitted under Global Music Performance. For an album to be considered under R&B for the Grammys, 75% of its playtime must be R&B recordings. I guess it didn’t meet this criteria and is probably why the R&B screening committee moved the album to Pop. I doubt we’ll be having this conversation if she had submitted to Global Music.
Free Fall has a better chance at being nominated under Melodic Rap than Burning under R&B. The R&B categories are very competitive this year and I doubt Burning will make it to the list. R&B has a whole lot of competition. We have Beyoncé, Lucky Daye, Muni Long, Victoria Monet, Usher, Chris Brown, Coco Jones (the most recent winner), Leon Thomas, Mary J Blige, etc. The list goes on. I doubt Tems has a chance there but I’d like to see her in the category.
For Melodic Rap, she’s won the award in 2023 and J.Cole is the most recent recipient of the award (2024), so I believe she has a very good chance at getting nominated under Melodic Rap.
Love Me JeJe should be getting the nomination for Best African Perf. Her only hinderance under that category is ‘No 1’ which Tyla submitted. There’s a one artist per nomination rule for Best African Perf.
For this same reason, I believe that ‘Joy’ by Angelque and Davido will get a nomination under the category instead of ‘Sensational’ and ‘Kante’ and ‘Tshawala Bam’ instead of ‘Higher’ for Burnaboy.
Finally, I believe MMS and Commas will be nominated under Best African Perf. So, my predictions are MMS, Commas, Love Me JeJe, Tshwala Bam and Joy (might be Sensational because of its commercial success in the US but Angelique is supposedly a Grammy Darling and their song might get nominated instead)
