Pod of orcas sink 50-foot yacht in Moroccan waters

The crew of a 50-foot yacht a few miles from the Strait of Gibraltar say orcas damaged the rudder of their boat and ultimately sank the vessel. The same pod has sunk at least five other boats since 2020. NBC’s Kelly Cobiella reports for TODAY.

  1. As a long time live aboard sailor on the western Mexican coast I find it interesting how the "experts" try to guess the possible reasons or mindset of a completely different creature.
It's like an adaptation of the old Lassie movies.
What? Timmy is trapped in the well?
Really? You call yourself a marine biologist? Seriously?
There's not a SINGLE documented case of an orca attacking a human! ( Not counting the torture chamber of sea world) so ANY "marine biologist" worth their salt would simply position themselves in the situation and then jump in and shoo them away!
I mean they might get eaten, but hey…. science, right?
    They sent monkeys into space.
I'm not suggesting you throw a monkey in with the orca, that's kinda cruel.
How bout an old astronaut? They like sailing.

  2. I personally think its egotistical and arrogant to think they're doing this for some sort of revenge for nature. Even when we see ourselves as the culprit, we are extremely arrogant wjth our place in the world

  3. People are out there harming these animals. It's obvious.
I'll give it a year at most and they'll be attacking people. These animals do not forget and they are extremely intelligent. These scientists can claim this is benign behavior but this is probably a warning to humans.
With all these cruise ships and military vessels and fishing vessels over all these years of global trade, you have to be crazy to think people don't harm these animals and give them reasons to do what they're doing. It doesn't make sense that they would suddenly start playing with large boats just because they feel like playing. If that was the case then this would've been in books a few hundred years ago but it ain't.
Keep messing around with those orca and you'll soon see real Killer Whales
