  1. Football is too much of a specialism for our dumb political elites. In the first place, football is not the kind of low- hanging fruit that our political elites can exploit for personal illicit gain. In other words, football is not the same as road or bridge construction whose costs can be astronomically inflated or padded to leave room for bribery.

  2. It is because we have elevated mediocrity so high that we do not even have any standards…
Everything boils down to corruption and inefficiency in the football administration of Nigeria. We got to the finals by stroke of luck and the fact that football in Africa is generally not improving, if for anything, the smaller teams are catching up with the bigger teams, not necessarily because the quality of the game is improving. Shame!!!

  3. We are inconsistent with our choice of soccer coaches. Today we cry for local coaches tomorrow we scramble for foreign coaches when we loose crucial matches. We keep on going round and round.

  4. Mr segun you have spoken well to be honest but not everyone in that NFF I mean entire crew have the same mind that you have the local coach might be someone like Stephen Keshin a patriotic Nigeria someone who have love for this country Nigeria who is really part of us not none of those other tribes who are seeking for biafra the rebellion people Igbo as far am concerned they are part of problems in NFF till today they are saboteurs they don't want anything good for Nigeria this is true have to be told if anyone of them was appointed as a head coach of Nigeria team believe me nothing is going to improve nothing is going to comes out of it all of them that are there now just there to make money and disguise as if they good but that's lie they are there to continue destroying everything this is the fact except we properly look for right person good decision like one of Stephen Keshin good person a good patriotic Nigeria

  5. God bless you Segun Odegbami. He echoes my thoughts. I like the fact he said it is not ROCKET SCIENCE. I was very open in showing my lack of support for the Super Eagles at the just concluded AFCON for this reason of having a foreign coach. We have more than enough indigenous coaches and we pay them less but reward foreign coaches…..inferiority complex. How can a country have ambitions of greatness when they don't promote their own.

  6. 5 of the 7 loses were not official games (Friendly games). Uncle Segun, you want to be the best but you have no league and no grassroots development. This is unrealistic. In addition, you are aware of the corruption in Nigeria's Youth football where players like Karim Adeyemi (Dortmund) and other have tried to play for Nigeria but due to request for money, they have represented other countries. Hence, this anti-peseiro rant is really unfair.

  7. Chief Shegun Odegbami I respect ur view but I also want u to understand that Nigeria team was bad and the tactics of the coach also contributed to Osimhen's struggles. U 're comparing Earling Halland with Osimhen. I want to tell u that Osimhen is a better striker than Halland. A striker can not score goals without the support of the midfielders. Keep Osimhen in that man city team and he 'll perform better than Halland.

  8. I am disappointed on Odegbami. This man did his best and should have been allowed to continue now that he has gotten his rhythm with the boys and fir the selections.

  9. His point was spot on. We need to look inward and discover real talented home grown players with hunger for success. We have them in numbers but only experienced indigenous coach can fish them out. We have no business being an average team and i hope the NFF do the needful.

  10. Amazing well detailed analysis, full of raw facts, figures and truth. I will forever respect this man, Mr Segun Odegbami. When you're good, you're good. A set of dullards controlling the affair of any footballing association of any country in the world will only hire another dullard like them as a coach. They will never see what's right to do because they can't give what they don't have. I dare NFF to combine Emmanuel Amunike with Sunday Oliseh if we will ever see any God father forcing any player on any coach in nigeria, if we will ever see any non-performing foreign players been called up to Super eagles again, if our best home based players will not be part of selected super eagles and still play very well at the same level with so called foreign players. The day, you give these coaches a free hand to instill discipline, unbiased player selection into this super eagles, then that's the day super eagles will replicate their past glory again. Truth is bitter.

  11. Peseiro, throughout his coaching career, has never been a head coach before, even in his country. Therefore, he needs to go and let's try home indigenous coaches. Better we encourage home products than always to hoping all the time on foreign stuff

  12. I have earlier hinted at the point that we should try home indigenous oaches and forget lashing money for foreign coaches who have never done any good for the Nigerian footballer since decades of trials

  13. Mathematical himself, respect chief Segun Odegbami….No one can describe Jose Peseiro than this, Nigeria 🇳🇬 reward him more than what he did…Let him go and enjoyed what we give him

  14. Take home message:
    Footballers are born.
    Messi is born
    Maradona was born
    Baresi is born
Just like Kanu, Zidane, Figo, Jay Jay, Effenberg, Caniggia, etc, was born
You can not just wish a Rui Costa to come from somewhere or a Maldini to be trained somewhere to start to play like him. Nope!

    Footballers are born.

  15. Osimhen failed to score goals at AFCON because the Nigerian team lacked creativity in the midfield to set the attack blazing. We need to have a flashback to how creative Oliseh and Okocha were in the midfield for Yekini to be so deadly in front of goal back then. You wouldn't see Yekini in defensive and midfield battles like Osimhen is doing now. Yekini would be there upfront waiting for a through pass from either the midfield, manned by the likes of Oliseh, Okocha, Adepoju and Oliha or the wings, manned by Finidi and Emmanuel Amunike. Where are the likes of these midfielders and wingers in Super Eagles today to make the job of Osimhen easier. The defensive mentality of the coach even made everything worse. Super Eagles team is always known to be an attacking team scoring goals in every match and going forward, to maximize the current attacking potentials we have, we need an attacking-minded coach.

  16. I advise that Nigeria should listen to this man, a resource for national development through soccer. Each state can support a football club each with private sector collaboration. Check out Chief Nathaniel Olabiyi (N. O.) IDOWU’s legacies! God bless his soul.

  17. Mr. Odegbami you can disagree with Porseiro but you don’t need to be so acidic with your criticism. A man of your stature l ought to be more measured even when you criticize.

  18. Sunday Oliseh should never be considered. He lack man management skills and he is too fool of himself. Emmanuel Amuneke is simply our best for now.

  19. HI ARISE TEAM, I ENJOYED YR INTERVIEW OF THE MATHEMATICAL ODEGBAMI BUT WAS SAD TO HEAR FROM THE LEGEND HIMSELF SAYING GOOD PLAYING TURF AND SOCCER FACILITIES WAS WHAT WILL BRING THE GLORY DAYS BA K TO OUR FOOTBALL IN NIGERIA. PERSONALLY, I BELIEVE TAKING FOOTBALL BACK TO OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM AND FASHION OUT COMPETITIONS THAT WILL THROW UP TALENTS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. IT IS SO EASY TO DO BUT OUR POLITICIANS DON'T WANT TO SOW ANY SEED. HOW CAN WE CLAIM TO LOVE SOCCER AS A COUNTRY AND WE DO NOT DEVELOP IT.. IF WE WANT NIGERIANS TO GO BACK TO STADIUMS WE HAVE TO CREATE A MODERN DAY PRINCIPAL'S CUP, A NEW ACADEMICAL'S FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL TO TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS. THE UNITED STATES DEVELOP ALL HER SPORTS THROUGH SCHOOL SYSTEMS, THAT IS SOME UNDER GRADS GOES TO THE OLYMPICS TO REPRESENT THE US AND COME BACK TO SCHOOL AFTERWARDS. WE CAN DO SAME.

  20. Segun Odegbami lied!!!! The target was given to him by NFF. He met and surpassed the target. Don't lie on Peseiro. !!!! I know that Segun Odegbami is lobbying for someone, that's why he lied on Peseiro. Pathetic !!!! Segun Odegbami played under a foreign coach Alan Hawke of Shooting stars while the other clubs like Enugu Rangers had local coaches. So what rubbish is he preaching about coaching.

  21. Sir u are wrong, Haaland does not such skill u are talking about, Victor can’t be like Kanu, every player is peculiar, just like u, till date I can’t see any player that operates like u, so as a generation goes so a new and different generation takes over. Victor can’t be Kanu and Kanu will never be Victor. Victor is a top number 9, Kanu is just like an attacking midfielder stroke striker.

  22. Point of Correction Sir! He did not set the mandate for himself, it was the NFF that gave him the mandate bcos he did not qualify NIGERIA to the last World Cup. It was the same U that did not encourage local coaches, u guys drop AUSTIN and went from foreign coach, didn’t u see local coaches b4 going for oyibo.
