Parents were raising eyebrows after they were asked by a Miami-Dade school to consent to having their children participate in a book reading by an African American author.

The permission slip from Coral Way K-8 in Miami was intended to comply with the Parental Rights in Education Law, but parents and even some school board members are confused…

  1. Florida wasn't NEVER like this when Jeb Bush was Governor!! DeSantis is Simply a Nazi!! I'm a Lincoln Republican: Lincoln, Reagan,Bush, McCain,Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. I voted for Biden and I'm going to vote Biden again!!

  2. The Florida commissioner of education, Manny Díaz, called the situation a “hoax”, posting on X: “Florida does not require a permission slip to teach African American history or to celebrate Black History Month. Any school that does this is completely in the wrong.”

  3. Florida students are gonna graduate with half an education… and few will be able to apply and be accepted into good universities (up north). Happy I left the state when I did.

  4. The rule states "In this rule, the term “School-sponsored Events or Activities” means an event or activity the school of enrollment created for students to study or participate in while in the custody of the school district" and "District procedures must require signed parent or guardian permission forms for the event or activity that include, at a minimum, the following information:

    1. The nature of the event or activity.

    2. The date(s) and time(s) of the event or activity.

    3. Specific location(s) and type(s) of sponsors/guests at the event or activity.

    4. Method of student supervision provided, such as anticipated number of chaperones."

  5. Republicans want you worried about this culture war nonsense while they rob you blind. America isn’t a real country anymore, just a rundown mcdonalds with a shiny golden eagle and maga hat on top

  6. Im Filipino, im confuse, America is one of the country stop racist, but why there is a black history month? What month is brown? what month is white?

  7. Surely this isn’t because of just the author. This looks like an activity/field trip form for an event that’s not a normal part of their daily schedules. I pray that’s all it is! 🙏❤️

  8. Yep…this is the new Nazi regime from Republicans. Unfortunately… this is warranted. These teachers feel they have to do this in order to comply with the Nazi laws limiting education involving black history or black authors. They don't want to face termination or other consequences. They have to protect themselves from these maniacs. This way…the parents can't complain. They have the chance to opt out. Not many parents were complaining to begin with. It was always a handful of conspiracy nuts. School boards who have an agenda, use those complaints as excuses to do what they already wanted to do.

This won't be enough though. The bigots will still find a reason to complain.
