Isabel dos Santos is a biracial daughter of Jose Eduardo dos Santos, a son of Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe originally and her Russian-born Mother Tatiana Kukanova from Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic where Isabel also was born. The are not of Angolan lineages but rather all are foreigners.
Dos Santos has been accused of having led one of the most corrupt regimes in Africa by ignoring the economic and social needs of Angola and focusing his efforts on amassing wealth for his family and silencing his opposition, while nearly 70% of the population lives on less than $2 a day.
