  1. Wow, our country Jamaica didnt have a great Olympics, our sprinters normality do better in terms of medals. But zero medals is Crazy from a black country with 200+ million people. I guess we can be proud of our seven medals.

  2. Kenya (pop 60mn) won 4 golds at Paris 2024. USA @ 40 golds(350mn), st Lucía at 1 gold, 1 silver from same person. Botswana 1 gold .2.5mn .Abandon the population argument dear Nigerians. Its not scientific.

  3. Why are they owing the young athletes?
While they are struggling to make the nation proud, they are withholding their money. Didn't they think that could affect their performances. Please who ever is responsible fot that should try to settle those young athletes.

  4. What is that lady on about? She is talking about quantity. It is quality which can only be achieved through investments and supports from businesses, governments and individual sponsors.

  5. Cecilia, When we start telling ourselves the truth or stop denying the truth our leaders are not doing the right things. We can go in circles but the truth is constant. Our leaders are very corrupt and this affects everything we do and manners do not fall from heaven without hard-work

  6. What do you expect, magic?. There is no light in Nigeria as long as tinubu and shettima is sitting as president and vice president. Drug lord and terrorist. Even when we had hope on Amusan and D Tigres, and others, the light went off. What a country under Escobar and Osama bin laden.

  7. You cannot separate the widespread institutionalized corruption in government from the poor performance in sports. Yes, politics plays a role in it. Poor governance has harmful effects on all aspects of the country's activities. Good athletes don't appear out of thin air. You have to search for and train them before you can reap the rewards. While quality is more important than quantity, Nigeria, being the largest black nation on earth, should be able to compete with the US in track and field events even better than Jamaica. It's truly disheartening to see how far Nigeria has fallen behind in almost every measure of development.

  8. I quite sports professionally because
    1. I was sponsoring myself and trying to keep up with my personal demands with zero motivation and encouragement.
    2. No level playing field at home as there was no drug test for local competitions, no right weight matching, no proper equipments like fighting gloves, etc.
    3. Internal corruption as even our leaders are broke and preying on every penny we the athletes are giving.
    4. Rotten corrupted internal system with terrible spoiled or no equipment and free drug market.

So, why should I be taken such needless risk in boxing with no future?
We would never get it right with this kind of diminishing growth mentality.

Inter house, inter schools, and inter state competition are completely death or in epileptic surviving state totally rigged.

See, this way we're going, more zero's to come.

  9. Please mention the Nigerians that are playing for other countries o. They can’t win when in Nigeria but can win for others, this should tell you where all the blame lies.

  10. Lack of funding is a significant barrier that can prevent athletes from reaching their full potential, particularly when it comes to performing at the Olympics. The financial constraints impact athletes at various stages of their careers, from grassroots development to elite competition.

    Grassroots Development
The foundation of any successful athlete is laid during their early years, often referred to as the grassroots level. This stage is crucial for identifying and nurturing talent. However, in many regions, lack of funding for grassroots programs means that young athletes do not receive the proper training, facilities, or coaching they need to develop their skills.

Without access to quality equipment, well-maintained facilities, and experienced coaches, promising athletes may never reach their full potential. Moreover, limited funding often means fewer opportunities for young athletes to compete at regional and national levels, where they can gain experience and exposure. In many cases, talented individuals from underprivileged backgrounds are forced to abandon their sporting dreams altogether due to the costs associated with training, travel, and competition fees.

    Elite Training and Olympic Preparation
For those who do make it past the grassroots stage, the financial hurdles continue. Preparing for the Olympics is an incredibly demanding and expensive endeavor. Athletes require top-tier coaching, access to specialized facilities, medical support, nutrition, and the opportunity to compete internationally to gauge their progress against the world’s best.

In countries or regions where sports funding is inadequate, even elite athletes struggle to cover these expenses. Without sufficient funding, athletes may have to compromise on the quality of their training or work part-time jobs to support themselves, detracting from the time and energy they can dedicate to their sport. This financial strain can also lead to mental stress, further impacting performance.

    The Impact on Olympic Performance
At the Olympic level, the margin between success and failure is often incredibly thin. Athletes who have had the best preparation, including access to world-class facilities, competition experience, and comprehensive support teams, have a significant advantage. Those who have faced financial difficulties may enter the Games at a disadvantage, not because of a lack of talent or dedication, but because they haven’t had the same level of preparation.

Countries with well-funded sports programs tend to dominate the medal tables, while those with limited resources often struggle to make an impact. This disparity in funding perpetuates inequality in international sports, where only the wealthiest nations can afford to consistently produce Olympic champions.

    Conclusion
The lack of funding is a critical issue that hinders the development of athletes at every level, from grassroots to the Olympic stage. Without adequate financial support, many talented individuals are unable to reach their full potential, and the overall quality of Olympic competition suffers as a result. Addressing this funding gap is essential to ensuring that all athletes, regardless of their economic background, have an equal opportunity to compete and succeed at the highest levels of sport.

  11. Some of the coaches are clueless as well. For instance, Tiwa godbless shouldn’t have been on the 4×100 relay team. She’s not that fast. I said godbless should never anchor for Nigeria, even though I am not a coach, I could see it. Did you guys see the way sprinters ran past her? It’s like she is running in place.
