Ofe Achara with Akpuruakpu Egusi, Mgbam | Flo Chinyere

Ofe Achara is one of the most traditional Igbo recipes. The mgbam, akpuruakpu egusi or ogbaloti sets this Egusi Soup apart from the conventional Egusi Soup.

  1. Does elephant grass taste anything like bamboo? could bamboo shoots be a reasonable substitute? easy to get in Asia, or in Asian markets in America and so on. Thx.

  2. Aunty Flo !!! I am commenting in 2021. I haven’t even watched but when I was typing Egusi akuruakpu in the search I was almost hopeless then I figured if YOU don’t have it then I am done for. God bless you and your generation. Oya make I go watch the video with my note pad.

  3. I doubted I was going to see this soup recipe online … I’m from Ubakala Umuahia , and my grandma used to make this soup … I would sit around the kitchen from start to finish … πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£… my absolute favorite… thanks πŸ™πŸ½ so much for making this well packaged video tutorial

  4. Hi ma. I love watching your video. Am from imo state but my mum from Abia and she cooks Acharya soup so often. I want to remind you of Achi or Ofer. She never prepared achara soup without adding a little of Achi or ofor. Its the main thickener for achara soup. And uziza leave is always added. Thanks

  5. God bless you for this. I am from Umuahia so watching this video made me feel so good and reminded me of how my beloved mum (late now) used to make her ofe achara. But she used to pound the egusi and osu. Then no cray fish and ogiri in the akpuruakpu egusi. All the same, well done ma.

  6. I've eaten it only once, and I enjoyed it very much because it was cooked by an expert cook. But it's not common like other soups. Maybe I have to travel to Umuahia to get good ones from a nice restaurant.

  7. Every thing you used was perfect except okiri okpi and akpuruakpu egusi must be cooked more than 10mins at least 1hr to make sure is probably done. In the whole umuahia traditional delicacies we don't use ogiri to cook anything. And we don't put crayfish inside mgbam or egusi akpuruakpu. Thank you.
