Ocean Electricity Grid. How do they do that?

1. The best part of offshore wind turbines mean we get to give the royal family loads more money, they own the coast and we have to lease it off them. I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing the ultra rich get more money for not doing any work.

3. I want to warn about all that enthusiasm of expanding wind-energy extraction. Don't neglect the risks and side-effects (read the description in the package, before take the drug!)
   There is a limit how much can be done!
   it affects the weather, global atmospheric circulation, and the (average) seasonal wave-heights on the North Sea; even the Northern Jet Stream could be getting destabilized; it is already more "meandering" than in past decades. The winds nowadays go more directly in North-South directions, effectively bringing more heat to the pole and even cold air to the Arabian deserts, therefore precipitating thunderclouds.
   Forget sailing yachts, You will fall back to row-boats!
   it is better to "harden" existing wind turbines for bad weather, make them sturdier, built two "types", one for strong storm conditions, one for standard wind conditions, prolong useful life-span, and get them carbon-fiber blades with erosion-resistant rims. Pure CFC-tec wings are easily recycled by chopping down and burning the chips ultimately; no ugly landfills are necessary.
   Wind energy extraction is already at limits, (Texas may see more cold snow storms coming down from Canada in future winters) PV has more remaining growth potential, if high quality, hail-storm proven panels are used.

6. Offshore windmills have a relatively short service life due brutal conditions. The decommissioning costs will be horrendous

7. If onshore windmills haven't lasted as expected then offshore windmill replacement will make these endeavours a white elephant 🐘 as the cost of replacing worn blades will outweigh any cost saving compared to a clean energy solution like nuclear 💥

10. Am I missing something, because I swore AC current was the EXACT reason why pur power infrastructure was capable of being so vast, and DC was restrictive over long distance, buy you just said the opposite @ 8:20. Some help please.

19. You're not missing anything, it will be bloody expensive. The other problems are coordinating it, choosing where to build, getting the green light for anticipatory investment, choosing who will be the organisation who builds it (the offshore system operator), etc.

    On top of that the risk of stranded assets is huge because of the problems with the CfD.

    The UK hasn't even got close to getting it right first time, and the £5bn saving is based on amazingly optimistic forecasts.

    The simpler, more efficient and cost effective, way for it to be dealt with would be to specify the additional equipment required on the offshore substations to connect them at a later date.

    Low frequency AC is thought to be most efficient by a German professor after they'd already gone down the difficult HVDC route.

22. I think you're being a bit too generous to the onshore peeps here. I do admittedly also think their detractors are too harsh! They're not wrong that there are downsides to the land based option but they seem to very much be arguing that a mild inconvenience to them shoukd be valued as a cost of £infinity, regardless of anything else. It's that aspect of it that seems to drive everything and it is that binary, winner takes all, thing that makes so many green energy projects unnecessarily difficult. It would be very helpful if we had systems in place that more reasonably compensated losses and inconvenience incurred by people, such that it sometimes becomes the better buisness choice to take an alternative route, and so companies are incentivised to do that, and sometimes it's still better to build the green thing and get it working but instead of valuing residents at zero in that scenario they then recieve an appropriate cut of the gains for the negative consequences they experience.

24. We would have universal nuclear power if it weren't for all the money the oil industry pumped into anti-nuclear groups. Go ask the founders of Greenpeace how they now feel about being used to destroy man's best chance at clean power, carbon-neutral fuel and desal everywhere. Not only that but mastery of the nuclear demon is essential for making life multiplanitary, the only true way to save humanity.
