  1. camera companies should just do the same and give it a different name like RAWDEC instead of compressed raw or something. loopholes. make it like a codec of theirown

  2. compilation of poor research. almost no one knows anything about the industry. they don't even know how much popular nikon in the field. it looks like bunch of young youtubers talking what they heard from friends. in mkbhd's channel… that's just sad…

  3. The reason behind Nikon's acquisition of Red is the flash distance weakness found in competitors like the PL mount cameras with a flange focal depth of 52.00 mm and FZ-Mount 18mm. Nikon aims to develop a mount with an exceptionally short flange distance, providing a telecentric advantage that will be hard to match. If Nikon can achieve a flange distance below 12mm or even 10mm in the Red cinema camera, it will be truly remarkable as it will allow for seamless adaptation of practically any lens to the Red cinema cameras. Ultimately, Canon and Sony face a challenging future, while Red and Nikon have a promising outlook.

  4. i hope RED secretly doesn't share any of their profits with Nikon. and then when Nikon goes out of business, RED gets away with it all. or they buy their buyers. or something. i dunno

  5. Nikon was never on it's death bed… The Z series were not popular in the YouTube space, but out in the real world, almost all professional photographers I've worked with, were shooting on Nikon cameras.. All they had to do, is send a few cameras to influencers here and there, sponsor a few videos, and they are up for the races… Kinda what they finally did.. Nikon Zf, and Z8 are showing constantly in my feed right now, and they are not even that new LOL! And to be fair, they deserve the spotlight.. everything they do lately is done right. Their S lenses have no compromises (even the cheaper f/1.8 ones), they are sharp as hell, corrected for breathing out of the factory, they are silent, weather sealed, have linear MF, even tho they are focus by wire, and you can even adjust the degrees of the rotation to achieve infinity. No overheating, fast sensors with almost no rolling shutter, jaw-dropping frame rates with no crops, oversampled and binned options, internal ProRES and RAW, and still somehow the internet jokes about using a Nikon. The only thing they seem to suck at, is releasing a successor to the Z6 line, which is the sweet spot (price wise) for a hybrid mirrorless, and will be their most popular camera. Why they are so slow to push out what people want is just beyond me tbh.

  6. this reminds me of the time when a Chicago baes company Aloha Poke. tried to copy right Aloha Poke within their logo / trademake.. the poke company was trying to cash in on the 2 Hawaiian. preventing anyone from using it. even in Hawaii

  7. One of the worst researched podcast â€Ļ Nikon in past 2 years is selling more cameras than canon sometimes even beating Sony .. give them another 2 years when the exceed 7 processor will trickle down to the mid and low tier cameras they will regain number 1 spot â€Ļ

  8. Another thing I can see on why Nikon was buying RED is: Global Shutter Sensor Technology.
Sony just announced the first ever global shutter sensor in a mirrorless camera (a9III) which has a lot of advantages such as being able to shoot on any external flash with any high shutter speed, no more rolling shutter, no more flicker etc…

  9. Normally a fan of the discussions, but there are huge misses on facts here. Such as compressed RAW being losslessly compressed versus lossy compression, the fact that Nikon is a major company on the stills side of things (the whole "Nikon is outdated" thing only makes sense if you talk older cameras and video-only). I feel like someone taking 5 minutes to do basic checking while the others spoke could have fixed a lot of this. The thoughts about RED quality coming down are just absurd. If anything, an improvement may be to fix some of the "bro culture" in that company.

Others below have commented on the details of all the wrong stuff here, but short summary is if you don't know much about the topic, then maybe just skip it and come back to it later.

  10. Sorry, nikon is NICHE? dude Nikons used to be so popular in the 70s. They misjudged the mirrorless trend, and sony has a good marketing team with their fanboys on youtube. Nikon is that good with their cameras but they've been lacking in the popularity dept.

  11. Lots of things I don’t like about techie millennials are in this video. They’re smug, snarky and don’t realize how little they know about what they’re talking about. Just goes to show that merely having a successful YouTube channel and endless cash doesn’t mean you know what you’re talking about.

But my bigger takeaway: Nikon bought Red!!??!! 😮

  12. “Nikon will lead to a decrease in quality”Lol😂 what a stupidly uniformed statement, so do you think the Oakley guys know more about optics and cameras than one of the oldest and finest camera manufacturers in the planet?

  13. So many uninformed takes in this one. The one that really struck me is the focus ring orientation on. Sure on older lenses it was the other way around from Canon. But on modern lenses you can choose the orientation yourself. It's a complete non-issue, not sure why that's "the most annoying thing".
But also, Nikon is generally regarded as having some of the best color-science out there, for photo cameras at least.

  14. Given that what these guys do for a living is opine on technology, you'd think they would actually know what they're talking about. I'm amazed at how poorly researched this segment was. Not speaking from a point of authority, obviously not speaking from a point of experience, these guys are speaking from (and I'm trying to be kind here) a point of bias. I can't think of a worse perspective to approach a theme from. You guys should do better.

  15. Nikon supposed to be dead by now yall lol looks like there coming back to life there's a reason they have been around since 1917 dont sleep on them i think my next camera gonna be a nikon z8 rented one and that thing is an absolutely F×××××× BEAST!! not much more you can ask for from a camera short of it being able to wipe your ass for you and flip your pancakes

  16. Uh like everyone else has said, this one was a hard one to watch. So many things were just incorrect. AND you didn't even mention the fact that Red currently uses Canon lenses, and what that could mean for Red going forward… No worries though, nobody is perfect and we still love you guys.

  17. This team needs an Editor. And by that i don't beam someone that knows their way around Adobe Premiere Pro and "edits" the video but an Editor in a journalistic sense for fact-check & verification. What was the decision to even keep the McD's bit in? Maybe I'm confused, but Is the premise of this show just technical noise or is it meant to have some integrity to it?

  18. Modern times… bad, very bad and mostly idiotic move from RED, just would be to shut them down, but now we're past that, so, we'll see how this will turn out for us all.
So, this guy on the left, that says that Nikon is on the death bed, is soooo ignorant and superficial about Nikon, it's ridiculous… Not of caliber certainly I've expected from MKBD…

  19. 8:55 Nikon publicly releases their financial information – it's the first result if you search for it. Their imaging products reports 18.6% profit margin for FY2023, and they specifically note that, "Profit grew substantially on increased sales volumes of mid/high-end cameras…" I think that means that Nikon are doing rather quite well financially.

  20. Fun fact for all those questioning Nikon’s cinematic/video credentials: in the 1970s they had pretty much the best Super8 motion film camera on the market, the R10 Super.

  21. Video said nothing but we know nothing about Nikon color science nor how they are doing financially so let’s just repeat what others have said and also that RED is the bottom of cinema but we use it. SMH

  22. Just to be clear; RED sued Nikon for illegally copying its data compression and applying it within a firmware update (Z9 2.0) and Nikon snapped back and challenged the veracity of RED’s patents, so the case was ultimately Dismissed.
