Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso military leaders sign new pact, rebuff ECOWAS

Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso have marked their exit from the West African bloc, ECOWAS – after signing a new treaty to set up a confederation.
The three junta-led countries have cut ties with regional allies and Western powers.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Abuja, Nigeria.

Africa is tooooooo depedent of foreign goods.. its cheer laziness to import almost everything. We have God fiving resources but our goverment dont want to account for them. We have gold, steel and mineral resources but we keep improvishing our people so they dont know the deposits we have. Mali. Niger, and Burkina faso will be just fine.

@kimberlycrossley6134

@ormsreel

ECOWAS caused it. They took a rash. Emotional and sentimental action rather than a rational and strategic one, I will suggest ECOWAS does everything possible to bring them back to ECOWAS even though they may have other pacts,

@obakengmoses8288

Chest pain in paris

@lacylou3482

They are not WEST African, They are African simple this people have nothing to do with the WEST and yes those countries is no located in the WEST don't be fooled

@David-io9lp

I'm surprised that major policymakers in ECOWAS did not anticipate that response from those 3 states. It was obvious to me from the beginning that if the sanctions continued they would simply force those countries to find alternatives.

It demonstrates again to me that we have untalented individuals in positions of power in African institutions and nations. It reflects in our domestic policies as well as foreign policies.

@christiankalala840

We stand with the Alliance States of the Sahel

If democracy is not yielding any significant progress in the people's life but only politicians and their masters, the people will support any person ready to work for the people

@dejumaboutique1305

This report said a lot without saying anything at all. It omitted decades long Western parasitic exploitation and impositions of corrupt leaders, etc.
