I live on the north california coast right exactly whare the northern part of th fault leaves the coast. We just had a 7.0 earth quakes and a 6.4 a yea before and enother like 5.6 the year before that. Those are all big enough to scare you. The 6.4 shut off the electricity to about 100k people for several days. It was crazy! No food or water in the grocery stores at all. No running water no heat, no gasoline. Almost everything closed. Anyway I'm not afraid of california breaking off into the ocean, if it happens it will be very slowly and it will basically be like the we will have beaches not o ly west of us but east of us too or like the sea of Cortez coming all the way up, we will be on an island! I'd rather have it to hot than to cold.

Cold. Easily. Even in worst case scenario, cooking under extreme temps is pure misery as you are literally cooked into jerky. In a deep freeze you will shiver and then its like going to sleep.
