In a significant breakthrough, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a clandestine attempt to smuggle opioids into the creeks of Southern Ijaw area in Bayelsa State, apprehending three suspects in connection with the illicit operation.

The suspects, identified as Ebuka Eze (31), Ugochukwu Okoro (44), and Kingsley Uzim (27), were apprehended by NDLEA operatives following an extensive surveillance operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the region.

According to Mr. Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the agency, the suspects were apprehended in possession of a cache of opioids, including codeine, molly, tramadol, and diazepam, with a total weight of 73.425 kilograms. The drugs were ingeniously concealed within packets of noodles, destined for distribution in the Southern Ijaw creeks.

Babafemi revealed that Ebuka and Ugochukwu were apprehended at Swali Jetty, Yenagoa, on March 27, while Kingsley Uzim was arrested in a follow-up operation in Amasoma, Yenagoa.

The illicit substances were reportedly hidden in jumbo sacks and transported to the jetty using a tricycle, underscoring the sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers to evade detection.

The NDLEA spokesperson emphasized the agency's unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and safeguarding communities from the scourge of narcotics, urging continued vigilance and cooperation from the public in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trade.

The arrest of the three suspects represents a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Bayelsa State, reaffirming the NDLEA's resolve to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade and uphold the rule of law.
