If you haven’t already, I’d suggest reading the legenborn series. And this goes for anyone in this damn comment section. It’s basically about a girl who loses her mother and after transferring to a predominantly white residential school, discovers magic is real and searches for the truth behind her mother’s death. So the magical world in this story is based off the Arthurian legend with King Arthur, Merlin, etc. I love it because the more you read the more complex you realize the plot is because she’s literally uncovering so many layers to her seemingly normal childhood, and overall the world of magic. It’s a constant thrill.
There’s an enemies to lovers that brews here alongside a love triangle situation. There isn’t any explicit smut, but the romance will literally have you pausing and running laps just to process what happened.
The main characters are so well written too and the story is able to seamlessly involve all these concepts regarding grief, racism, and identity, while also still being a fun, thrilling, and intense book to read. And the main character is so strong and intelligent while also still being sort of soft and feminine which is rare when it comes to black women characters. And watching her discover herself and her history through these adventures is just really cool. Great book.
