Samora Moses Machel began the chain of events in the early 1970s that’s led to the origin of todays tragic events that were birthed the communist independence of 1974. White portuguese were displaced and sent away to Portugal without any of their money and land just their personal belongings. These injustices have never been properly covered by media outlets and this led to civil war and any chance of stability and peace. The current generation of mozambiquans are suffering the consequences of terrible political decisions made by the frelimo. I am not saying everything was perfect in 1974 but the rule of law existed but now Mozambique is a mirage of the past.
Was an "Australian Volunteer Abroad" in Cabo Delgado Province 1994-1996. A Terra Do Boa Gente. A magnificent country. So much potential. My Mozambican workmates, neighbours and friends deserved so much better – yet I was constantly surrounded by good humour, hard work and generosity. So disheartening to read of the problems 'Up North'.
