  1. It is one thing that the President betrayed the government… It is an entirely different thing that the army refused to fight… That is the only purpose of an army and they can never be forgiven for betraying it.

  2. Hey Russia, we’re just re-energising in Syria to come at you later. For now, we’ll pretend we have no problems with you.
Nothing like the ceasefire we are requesting in Ukraine

  3. I think Israel attacking Iran even if Syria is gone. The militias and Iran still have all there weapons. What happens Syria, Lebanon and Iraq turn into major war again. Israel is in trouble. Seems to be stupid move by all parties

  4. The Red Army separated from the Deep Battle concept after the 11 offensives of the motorway battles, October 1943 to March 1943. It was about the supply route of the road to Minsk. The Russians, General Sokolowski, were using 300,000 soldiers at the beginning, had lost 500,000 soldiers at the end. The Germans had 10,000 deaths.

A line of fortresses can only be broken by creating significantly superior firepower at one point. This creates the gap for the breakthrough. Deep Battle means scanning and searching for the gap. It does not exist if the opponent masters his craft. If no breakthrough, attack repeat. New losses.

  5. The fall of the Assad regime was a total surprise to everyone including Golani and his HTS. So the dividing up of Syria is happening but its not really pre-planned in any way….Different forces Israel, Turkey, HTS alliance, PKK/YPG Kurds, and even the Russians to some extent are all vying to see what bits they get or steal by diplomacy or force.. all as the legacy of the awful Assad regime…

  6. Thank you, Mr Mercouris, and Mr Christoforou, for your courageous effort and consistently thorough analyses to bring us the truth. And a HUGE thanks to President Orban for his courage, in spite of ALL the shameless opposition he is facing among his bloodthirsty peers in the EU- to seek actual PEACE.

  7. AL-JOLANI: HTS LEADER : On December 8, 2024, Syrian rebels stunned the world when they seized Damascus and toppled the government of Bashar al-Assad, more than 13 years into the country’s brutal war. Spearheading the rebel offensive was Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, the leader of the Syrian militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) — and a man who has been designated a terrorist by the U.S. since 2013. (cont.)

In 2021, FRONTLINE correspondent Martin Smith became the first Western journalist to interview Jolani. Following Assad’s fall, Smith sat down with FRONTLINE editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath to talk about what he learned from his conversations with Jolani, Jolani’s journey from al Qaeda commander to rebel leader seeking a new role in Syria’s future, and why he will be “watching to see what Jolani actually does, not what he says” as a new chapter in Syrian history unfolds.

Stream The Jihadist, FRONTLINE’s 2021 documentary investigating Jolani, his militant group and his ambitions for Syria, on FRONTLINE’s website, FRONTLINE’s YouTube Channel or the PBS App. Read more of FRONTLINE’s coverage of Syria.

  8. The Russian State Duman has adopted a bill prohibiting migrant children who do not speak Russian from enrolling in school.

This bill not only grossly violates international law, but also the country's Constitution, which prohibits discrimination and guarantees everyone the right to free schooling. This is a gross manifestation of xenophobia, elevated to the rank of state policy.

  9. Nasty, Nasty, Nastier. Astonishing that some Leaders double down on destructiveness, whilst by comparison an incoming Leader has already begun 'positive Construtive' maneuvers!!!
Which of these Leaders do you believe have more interests of it's citizens and the stability of the global community?

  10. He (Assad) should have resigned in 2011-2012 and saved all this bloodshed that destroyed Syria…He bombed his own cities to rubble and disappeared over 130,000+ Syrians into his "slaughterhouse" prison /torture system… The supposed "fact" that in the initial more peaceful times he rode an old Honda to work is absolutely immaterial…

  11. RUSSIAN GLIDE BOMB ATTACKS DOWN: It has turned out to be one of those stories which is at once HaPpY news and sad news. Or depending on one’s perspective better late than never. News reports and analysts indicate that since the approval of the use by Ukraine of U.S. ATACMS and other long fires on Russian territory proper, the rate of Russian FAB/KAB bombs fired on Ukrainian front lines has fallen sharply. This is sad because so many Ukrainian lives could have been saved. And Russia’s current rampage in Donetsk and elsewhere could have been stanched earlier. (cont.)

Russian attacks against Ukraine with guided aerial bombs have fallen over 50% since Western partners allowed Kyiv to target Russia with long-range missiles, the independent Russian outlet Agentstvo reported on Dec. 12, citing reports from the General Staff (also there are indications that Russia is having trouble in the manufacture of glide bomb kits)

Why? Because ever since the approval came recently, Ukraine has since been relentlessly hitting the Russian munitions storage depots for those infernal glide bombs, as well as the associated aviation facilities. And the effect is beginning to show on the front lines. Russia is still making their incremental tactical gains. But now they have to earn those inches of Ukrainian ground the hard way … at the horrendous cost of “meat assault” casualties. Those constant rain of huge bombs which cleared the way for Russia’s Avdiivka to Vuhledar/Selydove onslaught have now become less so. Consequently, the Ukrainians are standing their ground and chewing up the oncoming Russian “meat assault” waves now numbering well over 100 each day. (continuing story)

  12. Syria and the Ukraine proved multi-cultural states require subsidiarial governance to be viable and prosperous or they perish on decade long civil wars:

Yugoslavia, Syria, the Ukraine, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland are all multi-cultural states. The sole reason why some fail and some do not, is the governance model these states have and the economic level they are at. The comparative economic level and wealth, if high enough, compensate largely for most of the time differences in culturally driven needs of the respective ethnicities in a country.

    Multi-cultural is NOT multi-ethnic:

The US is a pretty monocultural society with strong ethnic minorities (Asian, African, and much weaker: Hispanic) Ethnicities without their own culture do not pose enough divisional potential to endanger the coherence of a state. However, culture can. Here it depends whether it is a largely stand-alone culture with its own traditions, language and religion that are starkly distinct from other cultures.

Also, of course it depends on how strongly a culture plays into societal governance. If religion is banned from state governance as in France, officially, then that cultural element has a far less divisive potential than for example language and general traditions. If cultural differences are eliminated like in typical immigration only countries, like the USA and Canada or Australia (where the indigenous populations have been eliminated to < 1%) then ethnicities can only form weak subcultures like Afro-Americans have done so.

However, these are never distinct enough and cannot coalesce when spread thinly across the majority ethnicity population or if a set of smaller minorities is equally spread and a majority forms the basis and evolution of widely assimilated culture. Assimilated by all ethnicities.

Countries with strong culturally diverse groups where culture strongly influences governance of society and is strongly differentiating in language, religion and traditions can only prosper as integral states when they are far less integrated than mono-cultural states.

Multi-Cultural states can prosper and evolve only over the long term, when they are structured as Con-Federations or at least Federations with a strong subsidiarity principle in their constitutional and governance format.

The common denominator of such societies is considerably lower than in homogeneous states for example such as Italy where a north-south cultural difference is noticeable and cause for tensions which reduces the overall evolution and wealth of Italy but is still way beyond a civil war potential. In Canada the main divisive factor is not ethnicity or religion but only language and it was not sufficient for a breakup, as local/subsidiarity principles were introduced over the decades which gave the country a sufficient localization of governance. In Yugoslavia, Lebanon, Moldova, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, the Ukraine and Yemen the centrifugal forces became too big to reconcile, and those states were not able to establish a subsidiarily Confederal structure, and they broke apart.

All of those states experienced decade long wars until all of them bar Lebanon broke apart. Lebanon vegetates as a state with states within the state. Lebanon is a zombie state, propped up by the principle that all states must by force keep their people locked into one governance structure which most often is too uniform and does cater to the regional and sub-cultural differences. Instead of creating federal structures which always enhance productivity and prosperity, most states just enforce their monolithic governance structures with often just tiny excuses of minority rights which mostly are perceived as donations to the underprivileged.

Even monocultural states like Germany begin to experience the challenges of differentiated needs in a larger population. All while the UN Charter = UN law states that states must cater to all their people and cultural numerical majorities MUST NOT dominate cultural minorities. And that self-governance of the people is an equal right to territorial integrity of states.

In fact, the rather simple-minded territorial integrity right is meant to forbid OTHER countries snatch up territories. So, the UN supports the secession of people that do not see their rights and their self-governance provided within a state structure. The empirical proof and quintessence is that countries which are multi-cultural have two paths before them in the modern informed world:

Have a Federalistic Subsidirial Governance system or perish in civil wars. – That simple.

And for those countries like France who think they still have a mono-cultural state they should consider soon enough that future prosperity and peace will only be guaranteed by a direct evolution towards more subsidiarity and self-determination of regions and communities, and through more direct democracy, a guarantor of highest accordance of a diverse population with a state’s development and actively driven evolution by the people.

And this accordance of the people with their country’s evolution is the main driver of higher productivity and collaboration, higher innovation and thus higher progress and prosperity. Again, very simple- but the existing establishments cling to the capitalist feudal system, where they still want to control all productivity factors to the maximum- discarding the superior crowd=market intelligence of the people as a whole.

And for those who believe that democracy has been achieved and that it is the highest form of self-governance and thus any country that declares itself a democracy can does not improve and evolve its self-governance – I have shattering news:

    Nature’s most principal law is:

Evolve or Perish, always and forever. For Syria and the Ukraine (and Moldova and other states) this means:

Dissolve the monolithic States and create mono-cultural states in their places- if the UN can't do this then civil war will bring this through bloody evolution like it does in the Ukraine.

And for other multi-cultural states this means- evolve consequently along confederal subsidiarity principles to ensure high state accordance so that people feel self-governance but also feel the benefits of governing and tackling at the larger systemic level that has a lower common denominator but sets the framework for regional and communal governance and progress.

This, actually is the art of statecraft – to continuously evolve your governance and not cement it into a constitution for all eternities.

There is one example: Switzerland- and it is easy to study and learn the model and how it evolved and then build on that model.

  13. In a nutshell, hegemony neocon are on course to their long crafted colonial of northeastAfrika aka Middle East, strategically situated.it’s a hub of world dominion and long time coming, simply put and open secret 👉🏽crafted crisis since days of Lawrence of Arabia.wakywaky pplzs.✊🏿✊🏾✊🏼💪🏽

  14. It will be difficult to understand what exactly happened at the last moments but Assad's being in Syria right up to the last moments, beyond this he would have been killed; it shows his Courageous character and great Love for his country; I bet he did all he could do, it is just that the forces against him were too enormous for him to overcome.

  15. I'm just gonna make my own mind game about Ukraines future. Crimea, Cherson, Saporischja, Luhansk and Donezk Oblasts are definitely Russian.

Charkiw, Sumy, Dnipro, Mykolajiw and Odessa Oblasts will have the choice to vote to be part of the Russian Federation or not.

The western or parts of the western Oblasts which, until the second world war were part of different eastern European countries will have the chance to join them again. The rest of Ukraine must be neutral for ever, that means no NATO,  EU or any other future western organisations and unions membership and they will be not allowed to have a army again, ever. Russia and countries which will be chosen by negotiations will guarantee that those rules will be implemented and complied with.

  16. There are a lot of people I feel sorrow for in Syria. The Kurds aren't one of them-they demanded this outcome, and fought for it, and were critical in economically collapsing the government holding the Turks/AQ at bay. Anything that comes their way from the Turks or AQ is on them.

  17. When I finished reading the article from which I have taken the following piece: "True, [Ukrainian troops] have been tasked with killing civilians," Valentin Zubreichuk
from Ukraine’s 110th independent territorial defense brigade recalled as he referred to the killings of people who had refused to leave front-line neighborhoods
." — I thought to myself: It is good that the Russian SMO was preemptively launched against the criminals in power in Ukraine. Apart from the crimes they have already committed so far, can you imagine what they would have done, if the US administration, which had been training and arming them since 2009, had been allowed to continue "counselling" them indefinitely?

  18. I know this for sure, The United States would be far better off having Russia as a friend than as an enemy. The big brains in Washington can not see all the many reasons to adopt this simple premise.
