  1. I'm an American. A Black American. I studied Mohamed Hondo in my personal journey to connect with the larger African diaspora a few years ago. It was during a period of interest in African filmmakers and cultural representations following the colonial period. The pioneers if you will. I appreciate this documentary and will continue to search for his later films until I'm able to watch all thats available. Thank you.

  2. Repose en Paix MED HONDO ✊🏾!
I met him when he attended Organisation of Africa’s FIRST FRONTLINE FILM FESTIVAL 1990 in Harare, Zimbabwe, for which I was the convener/film festival organiser.
A giant of a filmmaker, Hondo’s reputation preceded him. FFFF screened his magnus opus SARRAOUNIA in the city’s main cinema house, and oh the crowds …😎! It was so gratifying to see queues snaking around the block to feast on African Cinema.

As a star filmmaker Med Hondo’s advice and practical assistance before and during this inaugural FFFF (my first stint at film festival convening) was priceless. I thank him again and again.
This giant of a founding father of Africa Cinema penned his Paris contact details in my address book. "Next time you’re in Europe, phone me!"
    And he meant it.

Al Jazeera, thank you for this documentary which should be in every film archive globally, not just African Cinema’s. It’s excellent for any film school syllabus and is definitely required viewing.

  3. Thank you for this great video. Although I'm French, I don't think I've ever seen one of Hondo's movies. But after seeing this video about his life and the movies he's made, I'm very eager to see some of them. I'm sure it will be worth it to find a way to watch them. After searching briefly for those movies, I've found out that at least some of them are available on the internet archive. You can be sure that I'll watch everything I can find from him whenever I can find the time to do so.
