I remember this fight I watched it live in 2001 Pacquiao was a replacement with two weeks notice the commentators didn't even know how to pronounce his last name. After the fight my first thought was Manny Pacquiao was different and he was going to leave a mark in boxing.

What interesting was that Pacquiao has been traveling across the US to find a coach willing to sponsor him, but receiving zero offer. It was his last visit before heading back to Philippines to one of the gyms where Freddie Roach has discovered his boxing talent. This particular fight arrangement was made shortly thereafter for Pacquiao to fight as a substitute contender — and that was how Pacquiao's destiny got started from this last minute fight!
