  1. Why call them beans?! They're not of the fabaceae family, the seeds or pods aren't bean-shaped, and you're calling the pod a "vanilla bean". It never made sense to me.

    On a lighter note, there's a different species of the Vanilla genus, called V. edwallii, that has the size, shape and even colour of bananas (when ripe but unfermented). There are folks working to make them commercially viable, which is gonna be awesome.
