M4 Mac Mini vs M2 Mac Mini: Worth the Upgrade?
M4 Mac Mini vs M2 Mac Mini: Worth the Upgrade?
Apple just unveiled the first Mac mini redesign in over a decade. The previous major updates to the device were the transition to Apple silicon in 2020 and the option of a Pro-grade chip in 2023, so how does the latest model compare to its two immediate predecessors?

No worries about the power button. I work with a MacMini M1 since early 2021, mac has been shut down 5-6 times in all these years.
Sooo you don't have one..
Lack of the 4 thunderbolt port and SD card reader and M4Max chip is what's gonna separate the Mini from the Studio.
My 8GB M2 Mac Mini sweating cause he knows he's getting traded in for the base model M4 Mac Mini with 16GB of ram
I deal mainly with trading graphics, I think the M4 basic will last forever at this point, so you think it’s a better choice than a m2 pro ? Also considering the current prices ?
The power button is a minor issue if you want to wake it from sleep.
“Half inch smaller in height compared to the previous model”
Isn’t the new Mac mini taller than the old one?
On the fence, I got the basic Mini M2 8GB 256GB with 1TB Ext Drive. What's missing from this conversation is Apple O/S Support. My thought is that since the M2 was still being sold, Apple will support it for 7 years. Other thoughts?
Thoughts on performance difference between the M4 Mac Mini and my 2023 M2 MacBook Air?
I have a base spec m2 pro, curious how much better multi tasking is on m4 pro. I find m2 pro when I have multiple apps and windows open can be slightly sluggish.
Wait the M1 Mac mini has a power button?? Seriously who actually cares about the PB being on the bottom now? In almost 4 years I have probably turned off/on (with the PB) my M1 Mini 5 or 6 times. Like the Apple mouse Lightning charge port on the bottom, its a non-issue for me.
I think Apple put the power on the bottom because all the Magic Mouse users are so happy with the usb c plug on the bottom. If it works for the mouse it will be great for the Mini!
People don't turn off their computers? That's blowing my mind, but then again, most people never turn off their cell phones.
USB-A… Nah
I think it’s pretty shady for Apple to say 20 times faster and then in small print faster than the fastest Intel Mac, which came out over six years ago
The guy who did this video was wrong. The M2 Mac mini is 1.41 inches tall and the new Mac mini is 2 inches tall. It is not 1/2 inch shorter.
Why would people turn their pc off at night? That means you have to receive updates while you use the pc.
I notice the fans of Apple say they oddly don't care where the power button is. Haha.. kiss kiss apple
Ive been using M2 macmini for the past 18months and it is fantastic! i sold it last week and gonna pre-order M4 mini later. 16G is more than enough for me as work from home / play world of warcraft / daily life activities on internet. if I need more memory next few years, it would be the time to upgrade to M5 mini then. but i do believe 512G is a must cuz it kinds look ugly with an external SSD btw.
Well, I turn my Mac Mini off every time I finish using it to prevent being damaged by sudden power cut or blackout.
Hi which port I'm a best plugging in my Samsung SSD in to, the front usb or the back thunderbolt
I've used a hot key to put my mac to sleep every day for many months at a time between reboots. i think most people do this, macs are profoundly good at surviving sleep vs windows pcs that have a 50/50 chance of coming back fubar
real question: who actually shuts off their mac?
The power button placement is atrocious. It's not as miserable as the mouse but still pretty bad.
The power button placement makes it look like everyone is sitting their mac mini upside down
0:23 the new mac mini m4 is a half inch taller than the m2, not smaller
I bought the ace magician 3×3 inch mini pc with 12 gigs of ram and a 256 drive. I immediately put linux mint 22 on it and its fast and runs like a dream. Not meant for gaming though it does support steam and I've been playing some of my non intensive games. Paid $125 after coupon.

Apple: puts the power button at the bottom
Apple fans: well, we just don't shut down our Mac~
🤷♂
i'm gunning for a Mac Mini M4 with 1TB SSD. I never switch off my 2015i Mac as l put it into Sleep mode when not using.
Thank you – this was helpful. I bought a Mac Mini with the M2 chip about a week before the M4 came out. Bummer! I'm going to exchange for the M4 pro on Friday when it comes out.
Of course you turn off your computer when you are not using it!
If you don't run it as a server.
It takes an unnecessary amount of wear and tear on the computer to have it on if it is not needed.
Is also a waste of electricity, which is bad for the environment.
Apple doesn’t ship their products to Africa, still waiting for tech Chanel’s to address this and voice their thoughts about this
I don’t turn off my Mac mini m1. I might reset it from time to time but that’s it.
Why do you always leave your computer on? Is it a server?
There is a little echo in the sound, you could try and remove that in post production 😉
Can I use Mac mini 4 base model for blender
I don’t like the power button on the bottom! I turn off my pc’s when I am done with them. Hopefully someone makes a vertical mount like the ones the other Mac mini’s.
I’m one of the few the turn off my pc when I’m done using it. I switch between using my personal pc, personal laptop and work laptop and having them on all the time kinda seems like a waste of energy tbh. That said I’m actually a fan of the power button being hidden, I’m huge fan of making things look more slick, form over function if you will 😂
Only intel cpu need to turn off their pc.
So cute it should be called Mac Micro now
