  1. Serious question – certain insurances and documents (car insurance, car registration, health insurance, drivers license, passport) require a PERMANENT address, and you have to show proof that you live there by bringing in mail delivered to you in your name. Do these retirees already own a house/permanent residence? Are they using a friend’s/child’s address as a “permanent residence”? If they don’t have either one of these, what are they doing for a “permanent address”?

  2. Yes , really bad idea .., Stay in area of interest in hotel for a week or so .. If you like it shope longer term apart hotels or flats .. Better prices and flexibility.

  3. The hotels appear subpar in regions I would go to for free. Give me a break. How about monthly stays at ritz Carlton’s or Four Season hotels while you still keep your luxurious home in the good old USA!

  4. This is the deal for me. I have lived in this Washington DC area for 20 years and have a nice house here: until a couple years ago. The water pipes on all floors burst while I was on a trip. I came home to garbage and mice everywhere so needed a room quickly while still working. Had to let the house go on sale.

One of my coworkers, a lovely Filipina, (who makes wonderful pastries) said I should not think about retiring in the PI. She visits her hometown often and mentioned I should call a DC local hotel: Holiday Inn Express for a room. Stayed in the room for a couple months that became years after retiring, Still there now. I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection. The only cost is the hotel bill and local taxes.

I have my own small kitchen tools and can prepare any meals I like. There are many restaurants in the area that deliver to the room. The view overlooks lots of woods and park lands.
The staff have been absolutely great and this gives total freedom in making plans and following actions: like visiting the PI. If traveling to the PI the colleague could go too and translate for me. In my case I should have sold the house earlier and ‘retired’ then.

It may depend on your area rates. If you are retired check the rates in other areas you can visit for short stays. Make contact with hotels you like: they may give you special rates If they know it will be recurring. If not retired, visit hotels in your preferred area and ask what deals they might give you for a longtime stay. In my case I should have sold the house earlier and ‘retired’ then.

Don’’t miss a chance to try other types of living.

    Regards

  5. It makes for a nice dream, but if one is planning on retiring like this, think again. Prices go up, and in the past year, they have gone up quite a bit. I’ve been back and forth from the Philippines since my wife comes from there. I’ve noticed increases every time I travel there. Decide on a location and invest in a property, don’t throw your money down the toilet, so to speak finding as your retirement years go by your fixed income purchases less and less.

  6. Retirement is not Care or nursing home
Of course Drs and nurses are available from clinics nearby
If you are healthy and have a budget how much you wish to spend in a year then match your retirement home to your budget
I these 10 are fantastic gems for retirement especially to run away from cold winters or hot burning climate conditions

  7. Who wants to retire outside of the US where we don’t have health insurance we can’t use our retirement perks that’s crazy. I thought you were serious about trying to find some thing like that within the United States.

  8. I checked the rates for the hotel in the Philippines and it's over $100 per night, am I missing something? How can I find the rates you are suggesting in your video?

  9. Hope you like oppressive heat/humidity and torrential rains in most of these places, and the joy of 15 hour flights to go see the family in the usa . Just hope these hotels give free diarrhea meds for the lovely local cuisine you will be partaking, especially if you drink the water or have ice in your drinks.

  10. this is just a collection of cheap hotels because they are in a not so amazing surrounding. Is this really what you want in retirement? I would rather prefer nice beach places. And there exist hotels that are far better and even cheaper like the royal shaza suites in Mombasa.
