Looking for trouble in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 vA 46
I walk to Arat kilo to have a great Ethiopian salad in a fruit house. It’s midday, the fruit house is quite full, but I still decide to go on with my vlog, and I film… that was the wrong decision, some people are very pissed by my camera, and the whole food vlog is ruined.
Though, the aggressive interaction that resulted from the fact that I…

First of all, nonody knows you and how people allow stranger film them and put on unknown channel? It's rude
I remember the last time I went to Ethiopia was 15 years ago , there were some mean people , I haven’t been back since and I am Ethiopian, but I am gonna give it one more try this year.
May be he is cheating on his wife and he doesn’t want to be recorded with whoever he is hanging out with.
this could happen anywhere around the world , this man might be having a bad day or has issues respect that and de escalate , some people dont want to be disturbed with people filming when they are eating , your just a tourist filming everything with a camera on you this is not an answer that just because you have ordered something you have the right to film everyone , what a dumb answer , ask permission next time from the management its private property or just film yourself and your food i understand you are also making money from your channel but respect people not wanting to be filmed they have every right . yes looking for trouble is the title to attract for more views … you could have cut this scene out and added another title but you are still trying to prove that you are right , you talk too much without any reason just say sorry and respect the locals , enjoy your meal and avoid the whole debate …
A great sentence for posteriority….
"I bought food so I can film here"
(Min 5.07)
And then the whining proceeds….
On this occasion you are in the wrong my friend! You are inside a private business, not on the street. Legalities aside, it is just good manners to ask for consent and to make sure you position yourself in a way people who do not want to be on camera are not…..
Sorry, about this ignorant Galla’s they think they own the land. They’re so ignorant that’s where their arrogance comes from.
Don’t talk to him!
Galla’s are ignorant peasants!
Trust me no one else we do that but the Galla’s that stole the election demolishing Amharas and Gurages home. They’re so stupid and poor minded. He just wants attention. You should just have ignored him. He’s probably working for the local Galla’s office he wanted money from you.
I filmed in Ethiopia while I was there a few weeks ago. I asked first when I was in any establishment. I had NO issues.
some people are stupid film were ever you want some people lol
Coming from Chicago USA, I was in Addis Abba last week. I also visited Lalibela, Aksum, Mekele. I will not forget Abune Yamata Guh, I did make the climb (Tigray region). I enjoyed every bit of my journey in Ethiopia. My guides at each location were the best. I had absolutely no idea how beautiful Ethiopia is.
Who cares about being filmed. It's ridiculous. The eyes are recording, and CCTV is recording!! Where do you draw the line? I personally don't give a ** who films me, I am not hiding anything.
if you are not welcome in ethiopia definatly its your fault
You're not on the street. You're in a restaurant. You're in another country, maybe you should respect the way people live there. They asked you nicely and you refused. Try the same thing in Colombia or Mexico. Let's see how that ends.
The reason why ethiopoan dont wear short a lot people got a skiny leg its a genetics
Yves could have handled the situation better. I think when you are the minority, and in a place away from home, it is prudent to speak in a normal tone, and just act humbly. Remember the time you were crossing the place, where they had stoned the Polish cyclist, you modified your actions to be more friendly, meek, towards the kids, and other residents, so you could avoid any issues. This was wise, because of a previous traumatic experience. It is just safer to pretend to be wrong or recognise a potential hazardous sitaution, and stop yourself from escalating it. Just like those rowdy kids, if those customers decided to jump you, or even stone you, many in the comments would side with the aggresors. Even if the owner had allowed you to film, and it was legal to film, but the clients told you NO, it would have been extremely dangerous to do so because you are risking your life. We just need to forget about the rules, and remember there are cultures, humans are unpredictable. Also, Ethiopia has a history with foreigners. They beat the Italians, they were never colonised. Anyway, am sure, lessons were learnt. Be safe brother.
Clearly you were looking for trouble. I would have lost my appetite after that exchange. Good of you to eat the salad- Haha
I am an amateur photographer and when I travel I always see interesting people and like to photograph them. I talk with them for a while, if they own a business I always buy something and then I ask for permission to photograph them. I cannot recall any time that I was denied my request. I think your reaction my friend was too defensive. I am glad you did not get in more trouble. I subscribe to your channel because it is fabulous and admire your work and courage. But please be careful.
Let me ask you about your deep interest behind your wondering in so many east african countries???
Don't scream b/c your are not allowed to meet your interest! .and you can refer so many tourist who are witnesses for ethiopians are the true welcoming peoples in the world!!!
Yeah you mentioned the problem way the people in adiss paranoid it's because of civil war
Hello Eve, I hope you are reading this comment, I want to send my condolence for everything you faced on this video. The person who spoiled your day by talking no sense about filming the streets and everything about Addis Ababa was not trying to defend himself or others, instead he was trying to gain attention from others by confronting Forringers like you by showing that he is a literate person who can speak English. I am also Ethiopian, and I can say there are a lot of persons who have such kind of behavior.
but for better I just want to say that you are the most generous, respectful and so entertaining youtuber on this platform, you were trying hard to show the world good side of Ethiopia, even though everyone was against you. I had also watched the barber incident, and it was so sad but eve I want to tell you that all Ethiopian are not like this. Thank you for everything keep going
ethiopia is weird. decent number of years ago, lets say 10, a friend took a job there. he was in a bind and took an offer. he had nothing good to say and bailed after 3 months despite the pay and benefits being way above what he could get stateside at the time….. during his stay he took some photos of things that yves or you lot will never see, due to his job and access. suffice to say, i know why they dont like cameras in that country in general……….
Humility goes a long way Kino, the guys were only voicing out their concerns about being filmed, maybe they went out for lunch with their concubines, or they could be wanted criminals etc
Tes you have to Ask permission…you not in u country
Another RUDE frenchy
A moment of learning Yves – it’s all good keep us informed remain blessed son❤
Don’t say bad side of Ethiopia
The guy represents himself and that is up to him.
I would have been pissed too. If am eating and relaxing I don’t want a random person recording me even if it’s legal
This is one of the reasons of Ethiopia being the only country that wasn't colonised in Africa😅
It's not just about being a foreigner – everyone has the right to not be filmed without their consent. Always remember to ask for permission from the owner before recording. He is no intention to harm you, stupid..
If someone don't like to be seen/recorded he should not get out of the house.
This guy is a terrible human being. Always negative and rude to the people and culture.
If the law allow you to film !!! Fuc*!%@ there feelings!! 3 world 💩 ⚙️
Don't mind those show offs they just wont attention next time you find peoples like them just ignore them
sometime your are getting rude always don't think you are right and don't be selfish
I think you were in the wrong here, I'd have just "oh sorry, that's fair enough I'll make sure to blur you out" and this whole situation would have been avoided
Look my dear Ethiopian have some strange culture that distinguishes them from the rest of the world. Not because they hate foreigners, but they have strong culture.
And, additionally they have a deep respect for elders.
If you don't,they will curse you!!!
Ethiopian are good people now and forever where you believe or not, they respect you!!
that's disrespect for Ethiopian and don't use someone's opinion represent all Ethiopian
If I found you filming me in my own country with out my permission and you refused to stop you would have test my puch not the salads😡😡😡
There could be misunderstandings in your trip in Ethiopia I agree but What they told you in the restaurant in Arat kilo . They are right. You can’t film anyone without their consent. He clearly told you that you can eat and enjoy but you can’t film me. This is not about western paranoia as you indicated. This is about privacy. You need to understand and respect the culture when you travel from one place to another. Please don’t monetize with videos that is not accurately describing the situation. There is a reason for not being filmed. It could be political, social, personal or any reason, they just don’t want their daily life on social media and they chose not to be filmed.
I experienced the same thing in Ethiopia and was even told I have to delete my footage. I told them “okay” but I never deleted anything and I posted it on YouTube. 😂 I’m with you – people need to know the laws. Public filming is not illegal.
My husband is Ethiopian and he was embarrassed by these ppl. They are acting like Karen’s.
You come across as a very ignorant sometimes. Like your video. But not religion
Bro you should have just said “my apologies for not asking” and they would have paid for your meal 😂 but, it’s when u start arguing that homie had to dominate you a little, it wasn’t too heavy handed in my opinion.
The title of this video is wrong and misleading. Didn’t see this video to the end.
It’s because he’s white they bullied him !!
Why Ethiopia did that they do not do that!
Bro I’m from Ethiopia that guy is just annoying
Just offer to blur his face, it's his privacy as well. i know the french shake their privates outside but its not the same.
I feel both ways. I dont like to be filmed in public. There is a youtuber kr something and posts pictures of me in the internet. Nowadays pwople think its normal but its very unpolite. You are basical,y using my data without my permission . How many women did you recorded during your visit around the world. If their husbands knew you woukd die 800 times
Just seen your video in the restaurant in Ethiopia pls dont eat salad or un cooked food while traveling
