Life is all about growth which comes by learning & applying what you learn. This growth also makes us realise how much we don't know & see things through a different & more appropriate perspective.
It's easier to criticise our parents for their limitations but if we don't learn, we won't do better. As you said, understanding why they did what they did helps us to be more graceful towards them.
