Fighting has left the site neglected by local authorities.

Libya was much better under Muammar Qadhafi's regime. The international community needs to intervene and come up with a power sharing deal between the internationally recognized government and General Haftar's administration.

If these monuments had been located in Saudi Arabia they would have been demolished ages ago.
France, Russia and UAE are supporting the rebels under the command of Haftar in the Eastern part of Libya. And the rest of the West supports the internationally recognized government in Tripoli. You'd think that the West would have similar interests and look for stability at all costs in Libya, and perhaps send in troops to neutralize all rebels, possibly supported by NATO. But nope, different Western countries supports different factions in the Libyan civil war.
