I have travelled to the neighboring country of Benin and I was referred to as a yovo often, usually just by children and teens. They would even sing yovo songs as they passed me 😂 like Mohammed said, I never felt it was being used in a derogatory way, it made me laugh and especially the songs the kids would sing.

My friend used to live in Nigeria and said 1$ in USA is 1000 dollars in Nigeria and she said her dad had a business there and had butlers and maids and since they worked in USA and Nigeria her dad bought a whole apartment complex just for a few family members to live there, and a lot of other crazy stories from there like when her billionaire uncle brought his wife to court bc she stole some of his money but she had to leave nigera bc of kidnapping and now she says she’s normal I’m usa now and she said her mom isn’t used to not being rich
