The Kenyan force and other forces from the Caribbean are not the solution to Haiti’s problems. There is a lack of law and order, which the gangs exploit. To restore normality in Haiti, an amnesty program should be introduced. If gang members surrender their weapons, they should receive some form of immunity from prosecution, except for those accused of serious crimes such as rape, murder, and kidnapping. Those not involved in these serious crimes should be granted amnesty, similar to the approach used in South Africa. This is my suggestion for addressing Haiti’s issues. A normal society cannot function with gangs controlling parts of the country; there should be only one authority. If Mr. Barbecue truly wants a better future for his country, he should lay down the guns and use his influence to build a stable society through ideas, not violence.
